The European Union stands little chance

EU demands right to dictate national budgets

I clearly recall how many leftists bragged up the supposed "worlds new powerhouse" as it was forming, looks like all the bragging was premature

Clearly you dont recall too much at all. The EU wasnt just set up by the left, but also by the right. It was Ted Heath who took Britain into the EU and you dont get much more right wing than that.

Nobody I have spoken too, and indeed few who speak in the media, think that the collapse of the EU is a good thing. Many of us dont like the way it is going, with merkel and sarkozy pushing for greater ties ( while at the same time holding differing views on the ECB. France takes the same view as the UK and the USA that the ECB should be the bank that bails out the Euro, Merkel thinks it should be the IMF.

Last week our Prime Minister told Merkel Britain wont agree to that idea, or to any changes to the EU treaty. Infact ten of the twenty seven EU countries are not in the Eurozone, so Merkel will struggle to get her own way.

requoted for truth. you should know tho, that nothing yousay will convince him otherwise, anyone left of of Gingrich is a lefty loon...he is so limiting and small minded:)

popeye1250 -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/24/2011 5:04:57 PM)

And not too long ago didn't President Pantload lend the E.U. $500 or $600 B of our money?
What's he trying to do, get the U.S. Taxpayer involved in this?
It's amazing, all of the "smart people" who come up with this crap! Why are the "smart people" some of the dumbest people?
Again, England was smart for not surrendering it's currency.
This reminds me of "the communal change jug" in the 1960's, everyone swears that they'll put money into the jug but it's not long before it always reaches empty.

And there you go thinking I care that  you didnt write about "only lefties", you miss out a qualifier you are still as wrong.
And what in particular lefties do you remember" bragging up" got cites, got proof, or is this your deep deep memory banks.
in fact most lefties I know in the UK hated HATED the EU (the common market) and still do. But keep on making out the left is the problem of the world, because you are simply too intellectually dishonest to admit your own parties faults.

Sanity -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/24/2011 5:38:49 PM)

I don't give a shit who is president and loans I've never read about and will be nothing new. We've picked our poison and it's called greed and we are now choking on it and 'soon' in about 20-30years, we'll be in a financial death spiral.

Lucylastic -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/24/2011 5:46:48 PM)

which means you have nothing but dick waving and chest thumping over your BS claims.
snide contempt is too kind for you, LMAO
If you cant figure out how you are wrong, maybe you should go play in the shallow end with people more your millieu

Sanity -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/24/2011 5:47:48 PM)

Greed? Its all the government giveaway programs, the politicians vote buying programs, the entitlement mentality that has sunk Europe and is threatening the United States

So yes, one could call that greed on several different levels

Sanity -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/24/2011 5:50:12 PM)

There you go, sink straight to the level of debate that suits you best

An elderly couple sued an S & L way back in the day. They charged the bank with lying and then acting recklessly with insider lending and the whole usual financial chicanery. The judge rules against them despite a very strong case. He told them that they were just being greedy in seeking the S & L's higher interest rate. Too bad.

The moral of the story is quite clear and morals and the social values they create, make up the very basis of civil and common law, is this: If you are certain rich and go for a greedy interest rate or return and get fucked over, or even fuck people over and lose still...you can get bailed out. If you are middle class or even poor and you get fucked over, too bad because you were well...just being greedy.

It's amazing how persistent the clueless are at times.

Termyn8or -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/24/2011 11:04:21 PM)

"It's amazing how persistent the clueless are at times."

I'd like to officially nominate this for Sunny quote of the day. That statement can be taken like three ways. Even if the clueless had been identified, were they clueless because they were persistent or persistent because they were clueless ? And then there is the issue of "at times". First of all are they only persistent at times or only clueless at times ? Or both ? And when it wasn't "at times" did they cease to be clueless or persistent, or clueless and persistent ?

But like any statement, the more ambiguous it is, the truer it is, at least these days. Someone please place my nomination where it belongs. (don't even think of it)

T^T

Agreed.....But I knew what you meant. Both the left and the right were calling it the worlds new powerhouse. The fact you failed to mention that fact, and only mention the left, was at best negligent, at worst wilful. My money is on the latter.

Sanity -> RE: Europe is crumbling (11/25/2011 6:22:58 AM)

No, by "bragging it up" I meant that I recall some of them claiming that the European socialist model under a United States of Europe would totally dominate the United States of America, and the world generally

I believe there was even a thread or two along those lines here on CM some time back

He's probably referring to the IMF bailout of Greece, which gets confused with the EU zone commitments. The US share was only $40 billion.

If so he can clarify, he made the claim and can back track if he wants.

England was smart enough to stay away from that.

Yep, it wasn't a bad idea that England stayed out of it, cause with the financial problems the UK has at present, they would otherwise wanna be paid, too [:D]

Now only Mr Cameron needs to get the fact in his head, that his opinion is as interesting as athlete's foot (with not being part of it) just like Mr Obama's view, as quite frankly surely both oh so great leaders should at first try to get their shit sorted, before trying to tell others what to do [:D][8|]

As far as I can tell it is Cameron isnt telling anyone what to do, just the the Euro is the problem of those Eurozone countries.

2012 is a disaster wating to happen, since many of the loans taken out in 2005/2006 are due to be repaid. normally companies and banks that have borrowed would just refinance, now the bubble has burst that will be nigh on impossible to do.

Tuesday will be intersting as George Osbourne gives his speech for next years UK budget. I think there will be a few shocks in store and not in a good way.
