There are now occupations and demonstrations in about 20 cities across Canada involving several thousand people and over 10 days. And to date there have been 2 arrests. TWO!!! No other arrests, no confrontations, no raids, no riot gear, no tear gas, no rubber bullets, no clubbing protesters in the street, nobody in the hospital with a fractured skull and swelling brain.

Heh ... Ya gotta love Canada, completely peaceful till it's over a hockey game, THEN LOOK THE FUCK OUT! Ya know, though I expect it'll be a lot more peaceful in the long run. And the cop in the sunglasses looks just like a cop in Hamilton I smoked a phatty with in 89 or 90 (whenever the dead did the full hey jude cover) @ Copps Coliseum. The next day I dropped a dub of the show off and wasn't allowed to leave the station before I showed two detectives how to set two decks up for dubbing
NOWHERE in the US would that happen!

what exactly is it that Hanners is saying that is right?
That it will end in bloodshed and violence, and that that will be deliberately provoked by the government in order to further curtail civil liberties. She says the police are being provocative on purpose, trying to egg on the protesters, effectively trying to incite that riot that DarqueMirror was on about last night. That the government wants a violent clash so they can scare the rest of the populace into accepting even more restrictions on their freedoms.

I don't know if its right, but it sure is starting to look that way to me. I will be very surprised if this ends without at least a few people dead, and I'm afraid it will be more than just a few.

Ok, Thanks. I havent read any of the OWS threads as I am not on here that much.

I dont know if the govt is deliberately trying to incite a riot or not. I dont even have a tv so what i learn about OWS is quite limited. I am sure the govt certainly would like the populace to willingly accept loss of their freedoms but i am not sure if people dying would accomplish that or not. It might cause the public to fight even harder. Does the govt really want another Kent State? I dunno. But, all it takes is one trigger happy or panicked cop for something similar to happen. And whenever you have a crowd of people, they sometimes dont act rationally either. People can easily get caught up in the "madness of crowds".

I find the power the govt and its enforcers have now to be scary and i have felt that way for a long time. Heaven help anyone that is on their radar.

Have you never heard of Kent St.  On May 4, 1970, the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of peaceful protesters, killing 4 and wounding several others.  Or how about Chicago, 1968 where there was never even an accurate death toll taken--though the Chicago newspapers reported 9-11 deaths, almost 300 arrested and thousands left homeless.  Not only were the IL National Guard involved, but the US military!!

she is only 18 years old and she lives in Canada so do you really expect her to know about Kent State or Chicago 1968? (I dont know anything about that one either).

I agree with Hanners.  Its getting really, really bad in some of our cities and somebody is going to be killed eventually.  We've already got an Iraq vet in Oakland who is in critical condition from the police violence.
