I wonder how many gangbangers they could sweep up using that kind of manpower?
Ya know, the people that sell drugs, steal cars and shoot people.

I dunno ... they sure have a lot of cops on duty for a city where the murder rate is a FEATURE to the city's points of interest.

did you hear about the ones in albany? The cops dont want to spend the time to arrest protestors if they arent breaking more serious laws than trespass

<snip>The police strategy in Albany was evident early Friday. Krokoff issued a departmentwide memo instructing officers "to be continually aware of the possibility that a small element may intentionally seek to draw us into conflict," according to a copy obtained by the Times Union. "At this time I have no intention of assigning officers to monitor, watch, videotape or influence any behavior that is conducted by our citizens peacefully demonstrating in Academy Park. ... In the event we are required to respond to a crime in progress or a reported crime, we will do so in the same manner that we do on a daily basis."

Their calling cards are litter and vandalism, nice.

If the Peoples Republic of California isnt far enough to the left for them, perhaps they should book passage to North Korea.

So, Oakland goes down, who's next, Cambridge, Mass?
Two bastions of liberalism. But don't try to voice your first amendment rights.

Dear Lying Person,
Nice try... earlier pictures show that the camp didn't reflect the destruction the police visited upon the campsite.
Your calling card as usual is a screenfull of bullshit

if it public property then they have no authority to ask anyone to leave.

Public property belongs to the "shareholders" and last time I check public means people, they have a right to be there.

Well unless public means "People", then we have a problem in Dodge and they most certainly can be arrested for trespass!.

Bastards.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Lovely pics, Stern.  I just love how the police destroyed the place to give the impression that the occupiers were unclean and uncaring.

And Real, I don't agree with it, but most cities have rules and ordinances against sleeping in public spaces.  Every single occupier is in violation of a city/town ordinance when it comes to setting up camp and sleeping.  I even warned my boss that I might be arrested this weekend because I plan to sleep at my occupy site--I don't do so during the week because I don't get enough sleep there to be able to work the next day.

erieangel -> RE: At 4am in Oakland, Ca, This is what democracy looks like.... (10/25/2011 8:14:47 PM)

Good question.  I'm beginning to wonder where the police budget usually goes.

ETA:  I'm also beginning to think the cops don't really care about the arresting murderers, thieves, drug dealers and other everyday criminals.
