Lucylastic -> grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 6:35:59 AM)

K IM almost 50, I can cope with that... my hair is halfway down my back and Ive been letting it grow out to its natural colour (grey) but this morning I found a long grey hair , its about 18 inches long, that is grey/white with some dye left in the shaft, the last three inches are completely white..but the last inch is dark Brown almost black(my normal pre-hag colour), including into the hair follicle....has anyone heard of this before?
I almost wish I could put it back in....

GreedyTop -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 7:06:52 AM)

I've had that happen every now and then, Lucy.. like the hair cant decide what color it wants to be!!

Lucylastic -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 7:42:30 AM)

LOL OK thanks hon:) I Think I will just have to dye it fast so I dont find anymore for a while!

GreedyTop -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 9:27:40 AM)

I'd go for a median color, then ;)

HannahLynn -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 9:41:13 AM)

fucked if i know, but if you can figure out what is making your grey hair turn back, bottle it. you'll make bill gates look like a fucking panhandler.

Lucylastic -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 10:07:29 AM)

Greedy, one more time being purple for a few weeks and then Ill go back to a more "demure" shade, LOL maybe.
Hannah..I knowww..I started to look for more, but then I realised if I keep pulling the damn things out, Ill be bald by tonite, so I left it alone for now

MadAxeman -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 10:08:18 AM)

I found a couple of grey pubes the other day.
In a certain light my junk looks like Willie Nelson.
Which I used to think was an illegal wrestling hold.

tj444 -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 10:25:14 AM)

are you sure? maybe you need glasses too??? [:D]

If vitamins, minerals, etc (or lack thereof) have effects on our body, why wouldnt the same be true of our hair? Perhaps you have been eating or taking something that has stimulated the pigment or whatever. I personally do believe people can do things that slow down the change of their hair color but thats just a feeling/snotty opinion. My first boyfriend had a fair bit of grey hair at the temples when he was in his very early 20s, so its not always age related imo. I dont recall that happening to his brothers tho.

kalikshama -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 10:53:16 AM)

Have you made any dietary changes recently?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 11:00:31 AM)

That's happened to me, too. Not often enough. I about choked at the cost of my dye job now that my hairdresser's changed salons! The pro job is worth it, though, her stuff lasts much longer than the 7.99 stuff from the box!

Can you cure grey eyelashes and brows? SUPER demoralizing...

Axey... have you ever read God Bless You Mr Rosewater, by Kurt Vonnegut? I don't remember much about the story, except that the hero Eliot finds a six inch long pubic hair. Thanks for the memory, dude!

Lucylastic -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 11:09:10 AM)

Well I had the benign tumor removed back in jun, and I started a diet..plus Ive been taking muti vits and iron daily since april. so its probably that

TJ, my glasses are brand new!!!, lol I have the hair in a "baggie" Ive never seen it before! wanted to keep it for posterity:)LOL
I tend to play with my hair a lot, but I dont use harsh harsh chemicals on it cept when I dye it, and I dont use a hairdrier, or tongs or rollers or anything, most of the time im at home its up in a pony tail

Greeedy:) My boss is a bitch *wink* but I can wear what i want (in my jammies right now)smewchies lady

I just plucked my eyebrows and they are all dark..the white ones are gone...for a week or so anyway, lol my eyelasehs havent gone yet
as for pubes...not an issue..Ive been bald ever since I found my first white one!

LadyHibiscus -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 2:13:06 PM)

Oh the surgery!! Surgery changes your hair dramatically, yanno! My hair relaxed so much after my first reconstruction I literally couldnt get it to do the style I commonly wore!

soul2share -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 6:46:41 PM)

For now, I hide my gray.  But like everything else, my hair is a throwback to my dad's side of the family.....so in about 10 years, I'll have beautiful silver hair....not gray, not white, but absolutely gorgeous soft silver hair.  My dad's hair is just as thick now as it was when he was 20.

I just don't want to do the silver hair right now.....so I'll continue to do the red hair......my normal color is a mousy brown with gorgeous copper highlights.....I prefer the red.

Funny, tho, I don't notice the silver hair until it's seriously long...it's like the color changes overnight.  One day, nothing, the next *poof* there it is.

That's just all the residual dye in your scalp leaching it's way out thru the hair.....[;)]

MissImmortalPain -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 7:01:13 PM)

I don't know if this works on everyone but I was told many years ago that if you shave your hair off down to the skin it will grow back the same as it was when you were a baby. I shaved mine off back when women shaving their heads was "cool" and my hair grew back in black....the same colour it was when I was born. It then grew out and turned back to the red it normally is when I'm not abusing it with hair dye.

Hillwilliam -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 7:02:18 PM)

At least y'all have hair

susie -> RE: grey hair growing black (10/25/2011 8:43:03 PM)

I had full brain radiotherapy after having my tumour removed. All my hair fell out but I was told not to worry as sometimes your hair can grow back in a totally different way following therapy. Some people who had straight hair before therapy found their hair grew back curly or some had thick hair where it had been thin before. Others found their hair changed colour.

The body is a pretty amazing thing.

Of course in my case my hair just didn't bother grow back at all [:D]
