Tesla's founder and CEO, Elon Musk, is a hearty political contributor who has primarily backed Democrats, including Obama. According to published reports, another Tesla investor is Nick Pritzker, a donor to Obama and a cousin of Penny Pritzker, the national finance chair of Obama's 2008 campaign.

Perhaps if the last guy had left your economy and automobile industry in better shape, they'd be able to start manufacturing in the 'States from the off instead of having to raise cash to retool a plant in Delaware by selling cars manufactured out of the country...

Since he's a Dem he expects to attract more foreign campaign contributions by lowering the rest of the worlds unemployment rate.

Status: offline 		There really should be a clause in these contracts when the government loans money to companies like this, "All work to be done in the United States" if not, they pay back the money immidatly.

Its more insidious than that. They are loan guarantees...the taxpayer cant get repaid if the guarantee is triggered, because the company is already bankrupt. But if the company succeeds, the taxpayer gets nothing. If they arent triggered, the money sits in Obama's personal slush fund.

I heard $90,000, but its still just a rich mans status symbol. And when you adjust for the cost of producing the electricity they get a whopping 19 mpg equivalent in fossil fuel use.

and if any of the ignored above try to claim "but they couldnt find anyone in the US that could build them", too fucking bad. The Oblama administration knew the cars would be made in Finland when they made the loan (or guarantee, Ive heard conflicting reports on the terms of the deal). The investors include Al Gore's firm, surprise surprise surprise.

The company states all money from the US loan has been kept in this country. Until someone shows otherwise.....
