Now as far as "cogent facts" go...I was a registered republican till 2008...and had,to my now everlasting shame,voted for the governor of Texas in the 2000 and 2004 elections.This was,as I now see it a huge mistake.one borne of distaste for the Clinton machine( which led to Gore) and personal bitterness wholly my own.Thank god I have seen my way thru the bitterness and am once again a happy person who casts his votes accordingly

All well and good Firm,and to be sure I do take you at your word for that...and yet the post I quoted seems to belie that viewpoint.In it you assert,perhaps correctly,that I ...and others....would never vote for any of these candidates,and go on to say that we would even look up dirt( no comment on whether or not that dirt was there,and if it was the value in someone exposing it )so that leads me back to my first assertion ie: any contribution I might have to this thread would be dismissed as partisan,slanted and biased.

Now I am going to repeat something that I said earlier,whether or not you or anyone else believes it is,of course, up to them...but were the Republican Party to come more into line with what I perceive as the best interests of this country and it's citizenry, and put forth a candidate that reflected that...I would have absolutely no issue voting for said candidate....It is not the brand I object to...it is what it has come to stand for and the goals of it's current plank that I oppose vehemently

I kinda see a bit of difference between "the brand" and their plank ... but it's kinda nebulous.

Perhaps I shouldn't have confused the issue by using those terms....my meaning was this...I have nothing per se,historically speaking,against the Republican Party...I do have issues with the GOP's current direction and it's viewpoints ...I feel it is a party of exclusion that has ,for far too long now,dealt in the politics of divisiveness.Were they to turn over a new leaf(for want of a better phrase) and evict the religious right from the drivers seat(as a first step to be sure) I would be far more willing to consider a Republican candidate.As it is today though I am assured of ,in my mind anyway,a few things....in order for a given candidate to make it through Republican vetting he must first subscribe to a test of party orthodoxy that immediately means he is ,again in my mind,unsuited for me,in good conscious,to be able to vote for him.
It is my fervent wish that some day...and hopefully in the immediate future I can once again ,in clear conscious,be offered a choice in a national election.

Hi Mike

Better be careful about this religious right stuff- it's a bit dated. Yes, there's an Anita Bryant generation that's been pretty horrific on both morals and spending, but the kids coming up identifying as evangelicals- well, they might have more in common with liberals than you might think. Same kind of ranking for problems- such as Darfur, Somalia, Iraq, economics, as many of us elsewhere in the religious spectrum- and gay marriage is a non-starter as an issue for them. They may be the Democrats to lose if we tar them with the same brush as their elders. As they say- politics makes strange bedfellows.

If RP doesn't get the nod, and I seriously doubt that he will, I will not be voting. He's the only one of the Reps that is coherent and doesn't spend his time attacking the other noms. He answers the questions directly and says exactly how he intends to make changes. Some of his ideas are very bold and achievable, others are very radical and unrealistic. A few are bizzare. Of the choices available, he's the only one that completely supports the ideas of liberty for all citizens; regardless of religeon or sexual orientation, isn't interested in seeing the US stick thier military noses in the affairs of other nations, and most importantly IMHO does not change sides. He has an idea or opinion, and he sticks to it. If he's wrong about something, he is accountable to that, and does not blame others or make excuses. Additionally, the vast majority of the things he has brought to the public stage in the past have all become true, he warned about Iraq, Afghanistan, and the housing bubble, as well as the wall street collapse several years before they happened. Everyone said, 'Oh you silly old man..." And now they write him off like he just got lucky with a few random predictions.

Cain will not get the Nom so long as he adhere's to his 999 plan. If you think the poorest 47% of the country is ok with having thier income drop by 27% your fucking insane. I'd be happy to pay more taxes, I can afford it. The single mom working at walmart? Not so much.
