ORIGINAL: LookieNoNookie quote:
ORIGINAL: Fightdirecto Herman Cain, Republican Presidential contender on 10-06-2011 to a FOX-TV interviewer: quote:
Abraham Lincoln said it best: "You don't help the poor by hurting the rich." Following in the footsteps of "Saint Ronnie" Reagan, who said in a speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention: quote:
What they truly don't understand is the principle so eloquently stated by Abraham Lincoln: "You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich". The problem is that Abraham Lincoln NEVER said this. Snopes.com clearly details that these "Lincoln quotes" were actually written and published by an obscure anti-union activist named William John Henry Boetcker in 1916 - more than 50 years after Lincoln was assassinated. As the researcher at Snopes noted, two axioms related to quoting others are: 1. Famous quotes need famous mouths 2. If the word we like cannot be credited to someone we've heard of, they might as well not have been said at all. Mr. Cain may know how to make a pizza - but he doesn't know much about American history or the actual words of the Constitution of the United States of America Cain mistakes Declaration of Independence language for Constitution. quote:
"We don’t need to rewrite the Constitution of the United States. We need to reread the Constitution and enforce the Constitution. And I know that there’s some people that are not going to do that. So, for the benefit for those that are not going to read it because they don’t want us to go by the Constitution, there’s a little section in there that talks about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. "You know, those ideals that we live by, we believe in, your parents believe in, they instilled in you. When you get to the part about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, don’t stop right there, keep reading." The phrase, "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", is in the second paragraph of the preamble of the Declaration of Independence, which was written in 1776, 11 years before the Constitution was drafted during the Constitutional Convention of 1787... Confusing the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence is no small mistake, especially for a candidate for president, said Donald E. Wilkes Jr., a University of Georgia law professor. The Declaration is a statement of beliefs. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. "No court makes a legal decision based on the Declaration of Independence," Wilkes said. IMO, Mr. Cain didn't intentionally quote an obscure anti-union activist and attribute his words to Abraham Lincoln - Mr. Cain was just too dumb or intellectually lazy to do his research. However, if one of his Godfather pizza customers ordered a pepperoni pizza, and Cain's employee gave the customer an anchovie pizza instead - Mr. Cain would probably fire him for being too dumb to do the job. Shouldn't we hold Mr. Cain to that same standard when it comes to the job of President of the United States? Who gives a shit? Your vote doesn't mean skadich. The Electoral College elects the Prez. What the fuck do you care what any of these bastards say (or mean)? You don't matter today...and you never did. Yes that whole point of a Democracy. Why should the people care what their next president says, does, or did. Like the quote used before Abraham Lincoln never said "Government for the people, of the people, and by the people" its a liberal myth. Give up on politics and let the ruling class aka rich run the country similar to the Monarchy that ruled that governed America before the American Revolution.
