As for the Quebecois, many of the French ones are actually pretty conservative (in the USAsian sense, not as in the Tory sense.)  once you get out of the bigger Quebec cities, so it is not surprising politicians like Jean Charest switch around.

I live in Montreal and work in a hospital there. Charest decreed that for every two of us who leave, only one will be replaced. Given that we are already so short-staffed that we are dropping like flies, it was an asshole thing to do especially since there is no shortage of people who report to people who report to someone else, at least half of those are redundant. Trust me he is a Conservative. I have the feeling he knew he had little chance of winning under the Conservative banner.

On he certainly is a "conservative" in the USAsian sense..

I haven't met many French-Canadians who would likely admit they are in any way a Tory or every voted for one, regardless of how reactionary they are.

But as I noted, a large number among the lot I have met are as "right wing" (In the USAsian sense)  as you could want.

Just part of the dichotomy of Quebec, I think.

Gotta love administrators. Useless. I see the same thing with my employers. It's too top heavy. (And that isn't top in the kinky sense. ;) Meetings are a frickin' huge waste of time. I'm so glad my boss doesn't have me go anymore. I have better things to do then sit in something for an hour that could have been provided in a 5 line memo. There need to be more health care workers, not less. If that is what Charest is backing, he's a total boob, beyond what I ever considered him to be before.

It is indeed what he's doing. I and my fellow hospital workers are dropping like flies. I'm on the edge of asking my doctor to put me on an extended sick leave and I know many who will follow me.

As for BC, the 3rd in line, it's apathy that won the Liberals the power in that province. Gordon Campbell is a royal screw-up and one of the biggest hypocrites I've ever witnessed. Anyone who smiles for his mug shot when being arrested for drunk driving is an ass. He made the news here when he did that.

The BC Liberals are the Conservatives there, or the closest party in BC that is..

And even if Campbell was a royal screw-up & hypocrite (what politician isnt???), he inherited BC as a have-not province after the NDP destroyed the place.. he turned it around and made it come to life again..

Seriously, there was no other place in Canada that i wanted to live other than BC but what the NDP did, made me want to move the fuck out.. If Campbell hadnt won and the NDP got in again i would have moved back to Alberta even tho i hate the cold and ice and snow with a passion, just not as much as I hated the BC NDP!..

eta- it was not apathy that won the Liberals power there with Campbell, the people wanted and needed a govt that worked. The day after the election, seriously, it was like a cloud lifted and people were happy cuz they had hope that Campbell would make BC vibrant again and he did. I was there, i lived thru it. After that election, even real estate started to sell again, which is a good sign that people have faith in their future there.. It didnt happen overnight but it did happen and it became a great place to live and work again..

Well, you probably will be staying south of the border for a while then -
B.C. NDP Leader stoic in face of promising poll numbers

quote:

While the poll released this week that showed the New Democrats with a seven-point lead over the Liberals was nice, Mr. Dix said, he’s been around long enough to know that a party’s standing in such surveys can go up and down with the public mood. And beyond that, the Ipsos Reid sample showed that Premier Christy Clark remained the public’s preferred choice for premier by a wide margin.

The Tory has been licking his lips and collecting support out in the boondocks, all at the expense of the Liberals. -
Political threat seen in B.C. Conservative surge

"When the centre-right vote splits, it gives the NDP the chance to form the government," said Mario Canseco, a vice-president at Angus Reid Public Opinion. Canseco said if the numbers stay where they are, the B.C. Liberals will be in trouble.
“Even if they get to 15 or 12 per cent, you know, those votes are coming from the Liberal base, so it's double-trouble for them."

And meanwhile the NDP is busy roasting Christy for her "cleavage" -

Considering all the political challenges facing British Columbia, Premier Christy Clark probably was not expecting her cleavage to become the hot topic in the legislature this week.
Former NDP MLA and political blogger David Schreck has been widely criticized after he tweeted, "Is Premier Clark's cleavage revealing attire appropriate for the legislature?" during B.C's question period Wednesday

B.C. premier's cleavage creates stir

Like any normal person gives a damn. If the woman did not show up dressed only in her lingerie or in a bikini and pornstar pumps, they have nothing to say, in my opinion.

The BC election could be far more interesting in 2013 then the Ontario one was.

lol Well, that first article says the IR survey contradicts that, but only time will tell. BC is a very union province, which imo is a big strike against it. I doubt i would be going back as more than a visitor, the question (for me) is will i live below the Canada border or will I be living below the US border (Turks & Caicos or Costa Rica perhaps?)..

I really havent been keeping up to date on BC politics, I only just learned that Christy Clark was elected and the referendum vote was against the HST.. so I had not heard about an NDPer focusing on Christy's boobs.. but then it cant be more controversial than this photo taken of Canada's only female Prime Minister (short lived as that was)..
