Lucylastic -> Jobs Plan May Prevent 2012 Recession: (9/28/2011 4:20:15 AM)

President Barack Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan would help avoid a return to recession by maintaining growth and pushing down the unemployment rate next year, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg News.

The legislation, submitted to Congress this month, would increase gross domestic product by 0.6 percent next year and add or keep 275,000 workers on payrolls, the median estimates in the survey of 34 economists showed. The program would also lower the jobless rate by 0.2 percentage point in 2012, economists said.

Economists in the survey are less optimistic than Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, who has cited estimates for a 1.5 percent boost to gross domestic product. Even so, the program may bolster Obama’s re-election prospects by lowering a jobless rate that has stayed near 9 percent or more since April 2009.

Well now the repubs will for sure block it. They don't care about people having jobs, they care about Obama not getting reelected.

smilessssssssssssssss I agree

DarkSteven -> RE: Jobs Plan May Prevent 2012 Recession: (9/28/2011 6:36:54 AM)

If they have any brains, they will make lots of speeches about the evils of the deficit, and then allow the bill to pass.

Truthfully, the bill doesn't address the core issues of unemployment and simply gooses the economy temporarily while borrowing money to pay for it.  If the GOP blocks it, they get painted as the party that blocked the jobs bill in 2012.  If they allow it, they can point to both their own speeches about the deficit in 2012, and the fact that the jobs situation still sucks (because the bill will not create enough jobs).

Q: What's the difference between an economist and a befuddled old man with Alzheimer's?

A: The economist is the one with the calculator.

All well and good tj,but tell me something ...when you are watching the news do you pay any attention to the weather forecaster ?
I know I do...I still look out the window to see if it's raining or not in the am...but I don't just dismiss what the forecast says when planning my day.

$200,000 to create a job, and unknown cost to sustain it. Exactly what we need. Obama nailed this one. [sm=banghead.gif] [sm=banghead.gif] [sm=banghead.gif] [sm=banghead.gif] [sm=banghead.gif]

So your point is that just giving people money for not working is cheaper and more efficient?  [:)]

No, newb. My point is the same as always. The government cannot create net jobs.

farglebargle -> RE: Jobs Plan May Prevent 2012 Recession: (9/28/2011 10:11:13 AM)

You don't want the government to create them and you oppose tariffs on imports so that companies create manufacturing jobs and build and buy American....

What other options you got?

The only option that works. Get the government the fuck out of the way.

farglebargle -> RE: Jobs Plan May Prevent 2012 Recession: (9/28/2011 10:24:55 AM)

Looks like the Government has 'gotten out of the way' of the big banks... Let's see... Job creation... Nope.. BAC is laying of 30k....

Hint: to lay off people they needed to create the jobs in the first place. Funny thing about business, it isnt static.

farglebargle -> RE: Jobs Plan May Prevent 2012 Recession: (9/28/2011 10:32:30 AM)

How does a net headcount reduction 'create jobs'?

You asserted that if ONLY the government would stop holding the banks back, they'd create jobs.

I pointed out that the government isn't holding the banks up from doing shit.

Now, you've been GIVEN the conditions you wanted. Let's see if they "Create Jobs"

Where B is the number of jobs to begin with and A is the net change in employees, C will then be the end-state staffing level

B + A = C

If jobs are created, C > A

B = 288,000
A = (30,000)
C = 258,000

258,000 >? 288,000

Nope.

Your hypothesis is disproven. We have shown that by removing government restraint, business do not as a conseqence create jobs.
