Do you actually read what others post on a topic before you have your say? I am just wondering because I like to see what everyone else says. Or if someone said what I was thinking in a better way than I would have said it.

ETA- Sorry this is in the wrong place. If a mod could move it I would be greatful.

DeviantlyD -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 3:05:56 AM)

Sometimes. It all depends on how long the thread is and what the subject matter is. The two times I'll jump into a thread without reading it all is when I see a provocative bit in the scroll up top (and it's a loooong thread) or a thread that I've seen go on forever and the subject matter of the thread title doesn't seem to be one to provoke a lengthy discourse. I look into these latter threads because more often than not they are derailed from the OP and I often wonder where the derail has gone.

But if there is a question asking for an advice type response, I'm like you, I will see if someone else has responded in a way that echoes my own thoughts. In those situations, I usually won't add anything.

I don't know what the moderators will think, but I figure you're in the right category. :)

NocturnalStalker -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 3:08:56 AM)

I read nothing and flip a coin to dictate if I'll give a serious response or not.

One side of the coin is scratched off.

ChatteParfaitt -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 3:53:12 AM)

I try to read the entire thread before I respond. However, if there are pages of back biting, name calling, and angry rhetoric, I admit I skip those.

All too often the real argument gets lost in all the immature "I have to be right" posturing reflected in some posts. I'm not interested in reading those, nor in participating in them. Once I see a thread has descended to that level, I may try once or twice to bring it back on topic, after that, I'm done.

PeonForHer -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 4:02:19 AM)

That's complete rubbish, MIP. The North Atlantic Conveyor is what has kept the UK's climate relatively mild for its latitude.

MasterG2kTR -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 5:46:54 AM)

For most topics I won't respond beyond the first page of posts, because usually by then it has been totally derailed or hijacked. Then there are some OP's who I will totally ignore (no names) simply because most of the things they post are totally biased, ignorant or complete drivel.

kdsub -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 7:11:12 AM)

The original poster is asking each and every one of us our opinion on a subject…not necessarily our opinion on what someone else has to say on the subject…So… I often give my opinion without always reading other responses.

If the subject truly interests me I will read other responses or answer to messages directed to me.

I feel no obligation to read every post before I form a response.

Butch

Apparently not.

I do all most the sParfaittame as Chatte, except I won't bother ttrying to get a thread back on topic unless its a thread I have started (only one so far). I just skip over the jibberish and read.the on topic posts / replies.

littlewonder -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 9:17:18 AM)

yes, no and sometimes.

It depends really. Most of the time if it's a short thread I'll read what others have written. If it's a long thread I don't and sometimes I'll just glance over what others have said but not in much detail and not all of the posts.

SoulAlloy -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 11:31:52 AM)

Sometimes, it depends on the thread and where I'm reading it - On my phone I won't normally as it's painfully slow switching between pages, and on the games never.
I gloss over the daft fighting, and if someone's posted something I agree with I'll echo it and maybe add a bit (unless someone else has echoed it already)

LadyPact -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 11:53:12 AM)

The closest answer that I could give was yes.  It's very rare that I don't for any thread that is listed anywhere from Admin Announcements through Health and Safety.  I'll also do so in Off Topic and Politics and Religion.  Polls and Random Stupidity*** is another matter.  For example, I haven't read the entirety of the "I admit" thread but I post on it.

On the rare occasion that I haven't read the whole thread, I'll say so or will put "using fast reply" at the top of My post.

***  Yes, I know they call it snippets now, but some of it is still stupidity.

LaTigresse -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 12:12:32 PM)

Most of the time I do. Occasionally I will post a reply to the OP and state that I want to get my thoughts on it out there before it gets distorted by the rest of the thread. Otherwise I try to avoid redundancy.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 3:17:31 PM)

Pretty much yes. I will skim over rhetoric, and certain posters who are one trick ponies.

mummyman321 -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 4:23:42 PM)

I try to read over the pages so I do not post an angle that someone has already posted.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 6:36:04 PM)

I usually do, or at least will follow back the exchanges I want to reply to. Sometimes I will reply immediately to the OP and then read and post again when I find something to reply to as I read.

xssve -> RE: Do you? (9/20/2011 7:21:38 PM)

I used to make it a point, but lately seems like One page of discussion, Eighteen pages of sniping and squabbling, so I just answer the OP, then go back and skim to see if I'm being redundant, and figure that if I am, it simply bears repeating, since whoever made it first was most likely ignored in favor of sniping and squabbling.

This, though often without much disclaimer.
