You're correct in saying that he is a liberal but he is also pragmatic and a VERY damn good political strategist.
If you are a Democrat and Carville gives you advice, it would be an excellent idea to follow it if you want a hope in hell of winning.

Agreed.  I don't particular like him, but overall, he has done a pretty good job in his prognostications and advice.

The bastard manages to marry and turn a good conservative woman to the dark side, as well.  [8D][;)]

You don't have to like someone or even agree with them to acknowledge that they are good at what they do.

I mean Jesse Jackson is one of the best orators living. The guy can have a crowd eating out of his hand in 2 minutes.

And he's a sleazebag.

James Carville had some very interesting comments on CNN about Obama.

Here is the link to the entire talk.  It also has a video.

The first few paragraphs:

People often ask me what advice I would give the White House about various things. Today I was mulling over election results from New York and Nevada while thinking about that very question. What should the White House do now? One word came to mind: Panic.

We are far past sending out talking points. Do not attempt to dumb it down. We cannot stand any more explanations. Have you talked to any Democratic senators lately? I have. It's pretty damn clear they are not happy campers.

This is what I would say to President Barack Obama: The time has come to demand a plan of action that requires a complete change from the direction you are headed.

He then goes on to give specific actions he believes that Obama should take.

All of which I believe are now too late, too little.

If only. Yet, he will win in a landslide cause the Republican party can't get out of their own way...

Ha! Click your heels together three times.
Who's going to vote for him, the Seniors, the Veterans, the Independents? Think he'll get the Jewish vote?
Oh there's going to be a landslide alright.

Bill Clinton was elected to his second term because he listened to James Carville. He knew he had to move to the middle and he did so. Obama will listen to no one, and will not be re elected because of it.

Youve got your history a bit messed up. Carville was Clinton's advisor for his initial election. It was Dick Morris who devised the re-election campaign strategy.

Nothing I can do about his baggage. Can't see women, even republican women voting for him for dropping it on his wife while she was sick. If that is his style. what else is he able to do. Actually would be great to have him win the nomination. Would give Democrats a chance to put a stake in the heart of the Right Wing cause we both know he can't shut up

It's not necessarily true that Newt can't overcome his baggage.  It depends on how and what he says and whether or not people believe him about it.

The US public can be pretty good about "forgiving".  Just witness the Clintons.

One thing to get the bj out of line. Quite another to be throwing divorce papers at her in the hospital.....Other thing that disqualifies him is his voice which is too high and he doesn't hold his head up and talk when he looks at people.

Lucylastic -> RE: James Carville on Obama (9/16/2011 12:08:43 PM)

The term became newtshit crazy for a reason

DYB,

I realize that you would never vote for him, even if he was the second coming.  Doesn't mean that other people would necessarily agree with you that he couldn't be forgiven.

I could forgive Obama for his transgression, if he admitted them, was honest and forthright about it, and not only "promised to do better", but then his actions gave truth to his words.

Understand that Firm....the last points outweigh the others anyway. His perception, voice, and mannerisms...not a prayer

Well, I doubt it will happen, either, but perhaps for other reasons i.e. I think Newt has a bit much hubris going on, because he is pretty darn well-thought out in his political beliefs, and I'm not sure that he gives other's credit for that.

What the fuck are you talking about?
What do maritime shows have to do with this topic?

It's Ron's fault... He made an incorrect reference to one of the reality shows I watch to see my ex's post-divorce boyfriend get bounced head first into bulkheads.[:D]
Look at it this way.... I was able to find at least something in this thread worth commenting on
