Unrest At Amusement Park After Muslims Wearing Headscarves Turned Away From Rides...

Why are they even at an amusement park?     You have to follow the safety rules.   Keep them out of PA.

Parks officials “painstakingly” told the organizer about the headgear ban, said
Tartaglia. But he said that the rules might not have been communicated by the organizer to some attendees.

From your article.

Playland was a poor stepchild to Palisades Park, and hasnt been maintained since Palisades Park was torn down....youve sunk awfully low to organize a group trip there in the first place[:D][:D]! (At least since the Rangers moved their practice facility to Tarrytown).

Rules are rules.  I feel you should have to either follow the rules or not participate.  It's not the park's fault that the event organizers did not communicate properly to the group members.  It IS started clearly on the website that that some rides do not allow any headgear at all, perhaps they should have visited the website before purchasing the tickets?

A few months ago, an Iraq war vet who had lost both legs in combat was killed when he fell out of a corkscrew roller coaster at Darien Lake Park in upstate NY.  When they design these friggin thrill rides, I'm sure that, mathematically, it is a calculated assumption that any rider will have a certain amount of body weight below the waist. The disabled vet may have met age requirements, but not body proportion requirements.

I don't think they design them for use with headscarves, either.   NO CAPES!!! (thats from babysittin the nephews)

Just a few weeks ago, a lesbian couple was turned away from Dollywood park near Gatlinburg because one of them wore a T-shirt that said "Marriage is so GAY".  Well, actually, she complied with the request to turn the shirt inside out and the couple stayed in the park for the day.  That placated the bible types concerned over how others display "family values".  But Dolly eventually apologized in a statement that supported gays, and gave the women their admission money back.  But I hear that park also forces the redneck guys who show up with confederate flags on their shirts to likewise do the same. They don't get a refund, either.

Oh dear oh dear, contrary to some opinions, muslims are just people like the rest of us, they like to have fun too and the reason why they were there was because it was one of their celebration days, as explained in the article. but as to; ''Keep them out of PA'', tow that line and who is next, gays ? because for sure discrimination cuts both ways, allow discrimination to fester and it might be you next.

But the article mentioned the manhandling of women, well, if that happened to your partners, wouldn't you be a bit pissed off and perhaps react accordingly. Perhaps your authoritarian attitude your security have is a little over the top do you not think, in disagreeing one is treated as a thug.

Is it not a right in a democratic society to disagree, or is it a democratic society has descended into an authoritarian society in some sectors ?

And of course always beware the saying; ' health and safety ', for that phrase can be used to abuse by some, as we well know over here, rational discussion is killed by the mention of health and safety.

It was an attempt to impose Sharia law on the others- which then would have killed the others in an accident.

Explain how this group was attempting to impose sharia law.

pahunkboy -> RE: Unrest At Amusement Park After Muslims Wearing Headscarves Turned Away From Rides... (8/31/2011 5:50:40 AM)

By creating "unrest" over the head gear issue.

tazzygirl -> RE: Unrest At Amusement Park After Muslims Wearing Headscarves Turned Away From Rides... (8/31/2011 5:52:06 AM)

And why did they create unrest?

because they wanted to impose Sharia law on the others-  and the US law trumped it-  which they felt was unfair.    Why are they even at an amusement park!

Would you want to ride on that ride knowing a scarf could be on the track and derail the ride you were on?

tazzygirl -> RE: Unrest At Amusement Park After Muslims Wearing Headscarves Turned Away From Rides... (8/31/2011 5:55:00 AM)

It wouldnt happen to have anything to do with the following?....

Lola Ali, 16, of Astoria said she witnessed a group of girls and women wearing hijabs go to park security to confront them about the headgear issue.

She said the women were upset and yelling. She said the security officers started pushing them away and the girls stood their ground, at which point the security officers grabbed them, pushed them to the ground and handcuffed them.
Men within the park saw this and tried to intervene, Ali said, and the situation went downhill from there.

“They were beating down the girls, then they started beating down the guys,” she said of the security officers.

Another sensible anti-nun rule.

anti-nun rule?

Care to elaborate or are you going to be a on-line-drop-and-run poster.

Would you ride the ride- knowing head gear could be on the track?

whay head gear on the track? They tuck those in, pahunk. there is nothing to fly around.... hoodies with strings are worse than the head scarves.

pahunkboy -> RE: Unrest At Amusement Park After Muslims Wearing Headscarves Turned Away From Rides... (8/31/2011 6:10:17 AM)

There were arrests.
