I'll go right out there and my arms will protect you. I know balance, I can withstand and that is not physical strength, it is knowing force vectors. And we can enjoy the storm. I love the storm. I want to be RIGHT there. No shit.

I will be there one day. If the storm wins, carry on.

Laughter is the best medicine, but a few shots of bourbon when the shit hits the fan might help, too.

Good thoughts from afar are never a bad thing, no matter what metaphor we use to channel the energy.  Be safe and well, over there on the East Side.

Hillwilliam -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/26/2011 9:50:04 PM)

This is kind of on topic.

Q: How is a hurricane like a marriage

A: It starts with a blow job and before you know it you just lost your house.

For those of you who are able, please have some way to contact people if possible.  text someone and ask them to post for you on the interactive sites that are important to you.  When we had flooding in Seoul and dozens of people were dying last month, I put a simple note on FB that let everyone know I was fine.  During the London riots, I sent a note to a friend to ask if he was all right.  (He was).  People do worry - although we can't do anything about it.

"You are thought of" is a wonderful sentiment.

Amen to that. Now if they only hadn't boarded up the local liquor store... Damn I am too slow. Should have had my priorities straight.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers everyone. Mine go out to everyone else on the coast too. Be careful everybody. Keep in touch if you can.

What lovely sunshine said.

That just reminds me that this also happened when the attack happened in London in 2005...where I also received many calls, sms and emails to check if I am ok...and I was far away from london at that time due to working with a client in Bristol...but simply friends and mates don't know where you are at that time and are often worried.

Good luck to all the people living in the areas visited by Irene [:o]

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 8:28:11 AM)

Initially I wasn't all that concerned since Montreal is fairly far from the water hurricanes generally pass us on their way to wreak havoc on the Maritimes. However, according to the forecast we are to be fairly hard-hit, thankfully on Sunday when most of us can just hunker down and wait it out.

My concern is for the homeless who may have nowhere to go, the winds are supposedly going to be horrific and the shelters tend to fill up fast.

sexyred1 -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 8:32:46 AM)

I am in a high rise right by the water as well. I get bad winds even during normal storms.

So, good luck to everyone and I am scared!

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 8:37:09 AM)

Hey Red sweetie,

I hope that you at least board/tape your windows as best you can. Please stay safe and post after Irene has passed to let us know you're okay.

hugs

Zeph aka #7

sexyred1 -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 8:39:47 AM)

I never taped them before, but perhaps it would be the time now! No boards though. :(

Thanks, I am just hoping it will all be over soon.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 8:42:35 AM)

Yeah I think that would be a good idea. I've seen pics of windows with huge Xs of tape across them. I'm not sure if it does any good but it's got to be better than having glass flying everywhere.

Please do pray. I am pretty worried about my parents who are refusing to evacuate after a mandatory evcauation was given. So yes please stay safe and make preparations now.

I don't think hurricanes have much respect for prayers, please do something practical instead
A hurricane doesn't hear prayers, but God sure does.

GreedyTop -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 9:51:17 AM)

Holly..are you all ok? my aunt is in the philly area, and is expecting the basement to be flooded...

Amygdalin -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 11:14:01 AM)

I think they said it has downgraded to a category 1 now after it hit North Carolina. So, now I only have to worry about 80-90 mph sustained winds. Before they were saying something like 120 for my area.

All I have to worry about now is flooding. I have some low ground here, a creek in the back yard and the dirt is always saturated with water as it is without rain. And I'm getting tons of rain now.

Thanks for the good thoughts and prayers. How is everyone else doing? Is everybody still okay?

Charnegui -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 11:22:03 AM)

*heard the news today*
Are you all well and safe?

Flooding may be the worst but I would protect your windows just in case. Better that than to do nothing and have glass shards fly at you, right? Irene hasn't hit here yet but I admit I'm getting just a bit nervous.

Stay safe everyone,

Amygdalin -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 9:28:19 PM)

Irene hit like a girl!!!

I'm only kidding. How is everyone making out? I hope everybody in its path is okay. This storm really puttered out where I am. They evactuated O.C. and I am right next to it. I was expecting to be carried to another state by now. Glad I wasn't.

Thankfully, it seems to have weakened a good bit. Be well, everyone. Best wishes to those who got it worse. Hang in there.

How does one tell if a hurricane is a girl or guy? Do the meteorologists lift up its skirt and check?

Aynne88 -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/27/2011 10:49:35 PM)

I'm on the coast In Maine, it hasn't hit us yet, but the rain and wind is just starting to pick up. It's 2 a.m. and I am wide awake and on edge. Hopefully it won't be what they are predicting....

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/28/2011 4:52:26 AM)

Things are just getting started here at 7:50 am. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Irene will do what most storms do and just pass us by. I don't hold much hope there is still a heavy rain/wind warning.

Amyg I'm glad you weren't as hard hit as predicted. [:)]

poise -> RE: Please stay safe! (8/28/2011 6:38:07 AM)

I'm happy to hear that things weren't as bad as predicted, but can well imagine
that it's pretty unsettling with all the power outages and system wide shut downs.
I hope everyone is doing ok!

Love your sense of humor Amygdalin. I bet you'd be a fun storm companion! :)
