This guy has amazing dexterity and some really intense concentration to be able to pull this off
He starts off at 170 beats per minute and finishes up at 600 bpm
This all took place on April 23, 2011

World's Fastest Guitar Player - Full version video
World's Fastest Guitar Player - Short version video

and there's a possibility that Darksteven might even know some of the people involved (in the full length version)

Enjoy....

Damn. Malmsteen is really a hasbeen now eh ?

I hate to get technical on yer ass but really that should've been ******ed in super high speed. I don't mean a high speed shutter like on a consumer camera, which still generally takes 60 FPS, but at a faster rate. I mean more FPS.

That's just to be sure he doesn't miss any notes of course. Hey maybe it was. Let's put it this way, I bet some older LCD monitors had/have too much lag to really reproduce it. But then with the high speed it could then be slowed down.

Hmm, let me see if I can get the math right. For no lag at 60 Hz refresh you need a monitor response time of I believe 16.67 mS. At 600 BPM that's ten per second. That would be 100 mS.

That can't be right. I have to give this some thought, and possibly a beer.

( ******ed, what do you call that now ? It's not filmed, it's not videotaped, what the hell do you call it ? )

It's an impressive feat no doubt but I feel its cheating slightly because its mainly scales. Maybe there should be a standard of chords and scales that guitarists have to perform, and without any added distortion so it is easier to judge accuracy?

OK, anytime you want to try it :-)

He sounded pretty damn clean to me, but at that top speed it is hard to be sure. If you watched the whole thing, I've known guitarists who could do it at the beginning, and that was impresive. But at the end, I guess that's why they called Guiness.

Notice he played the same piece as well, over and over. The scales were most likely chosen not to be difficult, but given the goal, what would be the logical thing to do ? Chords, a good point but at those speeds I think they would be hard to hear. Speaking of chords, I think, not sure but it sounded like the guitar was tuned to drop D. It's hard to tell because it only got played open for a split second, AND with the EQ applied in the amp it might not show up, maybe I'll listen to it on a better system. I was in the bedroom for this and these speakers are shit. Either that or I'll use the headphones, which are decent.

Whatever, the guy is fast,.

No, I'm not trying to take away from the achievement. I said it was impressive.

There was definitely a shredder type distortion going on, probably from a peddle. Its clearest on the slower speeds but it contributes to make the sound a bit muddy as it gets very fast. If the guitarists are performing for a competition and the criterion is accuracy and speed then peddles should be banned and the amps should be Pure Class A Vox clean!

It would be the logical thing to do for him but its a competition where the playing field should be even. I'm not saying the others didn't use easy sequences themselves either BTW.

Dunno about that, they might be more distinctive than scales at high speeds but I'd have to hear more to make that judgement.

BTW they should do the same test on an acoustic. I would be surprised if any guitarist could make half time on one of those! Thats where folks like John McLaughlin come in...

"Class A Vox clean!'

You are not supposed to know about that LOL !

But I won't argue that the right compressional effects can mask misses. There is no doubt. So maybe Malmsteen isn't a hasbeen yet, because he can do his thing on an acoustic. So, what now Guiness needs a different category for acoustic and electric ? Maybe so. They took it upon themselves to categorize and quantize this shit, DO IT !

He's fast. If I ever played in a cover band that did FOTB he'd be the man. Couldn't watch it past the 250bpm segment. It sounds like white noise.

Albert Lee is more my speed.

Scales??? Obviously you were not paying attention at all.....it was a common piece called Flight of the Bumble Bee. Go back and look at the data on the page it's called out right there.

The flight of the Bumblebee is pretty much an exercise in chromatic scales.

Well yes, but I would agree with turning off the distortion and playing it clean.

It might actually sound okay through a Fender Twin Reverb. What struck me most what his totally expressionless face. I could not decide who was more bored, he or I.

No, no reverb. Maybe the Twin Reverb amp, but definitely with the reverb turned off. That would be worse than the fuzz.

Actually more of an issue would be if he was using hard compression. However to make him sound cleaner is would have to be fast response. The fuzz would do better, but really the fuzz sounded pretty constant, so I think he was pretty clean.

Bored ? I don't know if I would use that term, but he certainly did make it look easy. Alot of guitarists get to the hard stuff and get this intense look on their face, like they're having a hard time taking a shit or something.

I've know more than a few guitar players who had blazing speed.  When they would finish playing the question was always, "OK could you try playing something musical now?  Maybe with I don't know, some feeling?"

They should get that guy to accompany the contestants at that contest at Nathan's at Coney Island on the 4th of July.

The guy missed in timing repeatedly just in the first go round.

Sorry, those with musical training catch this sort of thing right off.

I gathered it was that orchestral piece but the point was that it is comprised of scales which are easier to play at high speeds. While making that point I'm not trying to say it wasn't an achievement as it was still extremely fast.

Here is a nice acoustic interpretation with a dash of flamenco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afbya5byG9I
