Good point.

Which is why Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix, et. al., had the 'speed' thing as a  minor part of their repertoire.

What made you cry were the other things.

Status: offline 		A guitar player buddy of mine who was also a big mentor used a firearms analogy to give me some of the best advice on guitar playing that I have ever gotten. He said to fire a handful of pistol shots peppered with a few rifle shots now and then and when the time is right - drop the bomb. If every solo is a nuclear vent people will get bored quickly. I used to hang around a music store that he co-owned. Guys would come in and sit down and pork shop and just peel the paint with these blistering solos. We'd invite them up to these occasional open jam nights at a bar that was just up the street and watch most of them fold and crumble like a dry leaf in autumn once they found themselves in front of a real live band.

i will admit to shamelessly listening to Dragonforce at times, and while a lot of the guitar work there is about speed and dragons and the hands of fate, blah blah blah, there's still an emotional quality there. i think they'd be the perfect thing to listen to to get yourself pumped up before doing something REALLY stupid. hahaha =p

just because someone can play fast, doesn't mean that he CAN'T also play emotionally when he wants to.

Hold on, this whole thing was about speed. You want Eric Clapton or something that's different. And about playing clean Malmsteen did that. I mean there are other things. Like the fastest land speed record, what is it now 400 and change MPH ? What now every car has to go that fast ?

We were better off talking about 911 and the aliens and all that shit. Oops, nobody brought up the aliens in that thread yet, so don't say nothing.

Status: offline 		Speed metal is an interesting genre although I'm not into a lot of it except for some of the punkier examples like Motorhead, which I reckon are the original speed metal band, and a few bits from the end of Thin Lizzy's career. Some people find it hard to distinguish speed metal from thrash but it seems to me speed metal is more or less conventional late 70's/early 80's metal speeded up. The guy that did the Youtube clip seems to bring in a few bands later in the vid such as Kalman, Children of Bodom and Gammaray that sound to my ears a bit more like the sub-genre's of metal that appeared later on.

people waxing poetic about how he pales in comparison to more "well-rounded players" don't really know that he's NOT a well-rounded player. they're the ones missing the point, not the guy in the video. =p
