So last weekend, I went out with some of my dancer pals to this bar. It was post-show, but we were still feeling snazzy, so we toned our costumes down a little and went out. As we walked in, the guy at the door passed my three friends, but then said "now i'm going to have to see your ID." This happens to me a lot. even at U-Pull-It, a guy on some huge machine yelled down at me "How old are you?! You can't be in here!" I was older than he was. =p Do you ever find yourself getting carded even though you're probably older than the person asking for your ID? =p I remember reading an interview with my favorite violinist, Joshua Bell (swoon swoon swoon) where he complained of being carded when he was in his 30s at the time. I'm glad that they're paying attention to IDs, but it's just really awkward and kinda funny. I went to a birthday party a friend had for his kids, and even the kids there thought i was their age. Personally, I don't see it. I think I look my age. [/random b.s. topic]

I get carded ALLLL the time. I'm pretty used to it though although Master thinks it's funny as hell. We went out to dinner at a pub a couple weeks ago. He walks in and the bouncer stops me and asks me for my ID. Master just laughed as he walked away to get our table. hhrrmmpphh....yeah, it's annoying. And almost always the person asking for my ID is usually half my age. They usually look at my ID and think it's fake because I can't possibly be almost 40. When I go places with my daughter they usually think I'm her sister and when I go out with my best friend they think I'm her daughter which is just embarrassing since she gets upset then and the rest of the evening is just awkward with her.

At 21, I've already been getting gray in my mustache... i can actually just look down at my lip and see it there... Usually, though, I just pull the thing out anyways. Some jerkface boss could be watching and could fire that person, even though I might know him/her from the last 15 times tried buying something...

In TN, if you buy beer at a store, EVERYone gets carded even if you're 80. Failure could lead to criminal charges. Every time someone bitches at some poor clerk, I tell em. Same in Alaska, Hill. They card everyone. At first I was flattered, only to learn . . . In any case, apparently if you get a DUI, they issue a license with a big slash on it. Not only can you not buy alcohol but you have to leave the premises where it is being served.

I had to get to my early 30's before I stopped getting carded. In my mid to late 20's I still couldn't get in anywhere without getting carded. You'll appreciate it the older you get, :). ETA: I never understood at the time as I thought I looked my age as well. Looking back at the pictures now, no I didn't. I looked like a baby even at 25.

The last time I was carded was 2 years ago at the age of 58. Believe me, I do not look underaged. Legally, if you are in a bar drinking you must have ID on you. So, if the bar lets you drink and the inspector comes in the bar can get fined because you don't have an ID. This has happened to me in 2 different bars in 2 different states since I have been 50. I think the state inspectors must be getting more strict as being drunk becomes more politially incorrect and the laws on drinking and driving become more severe.

I'm with Hannah on this one... the guy probably just wanted your address... I can't say I blame him. [:)] I actually got carded for the first time in ages about a week and a half ago. I asked the young lady if she was serious or if she was just being friendly... it turned out to be niether. The store had gotten busted for an (unitentional, they claim) underage sale recently so now they card everybody.

There are some places here that just card everyone, I find it more of a hassle to listen to the person in front of me complain and go on about than just show the stupid ID. Like MrSprocket says "Some jerkface boss could be watching and could fire that person, even though I might know him/her from the last 15 times tried buying something..." I don't need to give some poor clerk a hard time over something that takes me 15 seconds to do. As a side note, I wish I would get carded again in a place that doesn't do it to everyone....getting gray and balder with age just sucks

Here in Iowa it is normal for places to card everyone. It's not flattering, it's not a bother, it's just normal. Many companies have made it a company wide policy and the sale cannot complete electronically without information from my ID being entered/scanned. I understand the reasoning behind it and don't mind at all. If I was a business owner that sold alcohol I would do the same.

The last time I was carded was in 2007. I was 45. Before that I was carded frequently. When I was 33 people didn't believe the age on my driver's license, and didn't think I was old enough to buy. Lilly, take looking younger as a compliment. There will be a time in your life when you are asked for your ID and you will say thank you to the person carding you. [:)]

Last time someone asked me for my ID was at FetishCon in Tampa last month. I understand perfectly well they need to make sure everyone there has ID and is of legal age.

The first time I was carded I was 26. It was the only time I have ever been carded in a situation where it was not mandatory.

I figure if it's still happening when i'm 40, I'll be pretty happy. =p Right now, though, it's just awkward. Here, they don't card everyone, at least not at the places I've been, but I always have my ID out to show people because I'm used to it by now. The U-Pull-It incident was just really annoying because he was flipping out about me being in there, and I was like "i'm 27, i'm probably older than you!" haha When I had first moved here, and didn't have my NE license yet, I got accused of a fake ID a lot, too. But you know where it is really awkward -- when I'm out with a guy. Someone at a restaurant pulled a friend of mine to the side once and said "she's not underage, is she?" That's really embarrassing, and pretty un-fun. I'm glad they check IDs; if I had a bar and there was someone in the grey area, i'd rather my door person err on the side of caution.
