ORIGINAL: willbeurdaddy If they had them made in the US and they were more expensive because of US regulations, THAT would have been hypocritical, not your nonsense. First, I would like to know what these 'US T-Shirt Regulations" you speak of are. I'm sure you would be more than happy to show the exact laws that make USA Made T-Shirts more expensive than imported ones due ONLY from goverment regulations. Second, which should trump more, when one is running for president of the UNITED STATES of AMERICA: Capitalism or Made in the USA? The four Republicans that failed this first (of many) tests should be held responsible for not knowing what happens in their camp. Since being President, one had to keep an eye on an even GREATER amount of things than just a simple presidental election organization. Come on, even President Obama passed this test with flying colors, and his job in certainly tougher than all the GOP candidates combined! Start with taxes, though Im sure there are many others. Embarassingly easy. And neither capitalism nor made in the usa is running for POTUS. Its the clown in chief vs anybody is better. I was going to stay out of this one (mainly because, I believe it is silly and unfair to hold any candidate accountable for where their campaign T-shirts are made. I agree that it is a non-story. However, I could not let that piece of nonsense slide. El Salvador has a top marginal corporate rate of 25% with no loopholes. The average corporate effective tax rate in the US has fallen down to 22.2%. Even if you figure El Salvadoran companies pay an effective rate of 15%, the 7% difference on EBIDTA is of no significance. To address the OBVIOUS elephant in the room. The difference is wages and benefits. NOT taxes. US workers have an 8-hour workday and 40-hour work week, and are paid wages closer to a socially acceptable US standard of living. (notice I said "closer to"). They also have benefits, and (to wilbur's point) there are SS and Medicare as well. But to say that "taxes" and other unnamed regulations are the market driver is pure nonsense. Too bad the vast majority of T-shirt makers are small businesses that pay personal, not corporate income tax rates, well above 25% with no loopholes. Fail again, MJ, but keep trying.
