PeonForHer -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/4/2011 2:23:32 PM)

I loved Red Dwarf too . . . but I have to say, the last series seemed really weak. The lads had all developed paunches and everything looked and sounded half-hearted. If there's a new series out, I hope they've pulled it back to its original glory.

Back To Earth was about as funny as woodworm in a cripple's crutch.

They should just pack it in now, but of course they won't.

Every series after Grant & Naylor split has got progressively worse.

There you go again with the negative waves, RF. New writers, better scripts - it could happen, possibly? Slightly possibly?

LadyHibiscus -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/4/2011 5:23:44 PM)

A friend of mine in the UK said the last series was weak. It's hard to pick up thepieces of something many years later, when time has Marched On. I am hopeful, though.

I absolutely adore the old Red Dwarf, but I couldn't bring myself to watch Back To Earth after the first 10 minutes or so. It was absolutely crap - I couldn't stop cringing.

I only hope that new writers give us something worth watching.

But I'm not holding my breath.

OH MAN!!!!!!

All time favorite line from Red Dwarf;

Cat.."what's the matter dude"

Lister.."My father is dead"

Cat.."I'm sorry your Father died...But for all the little worms...It's party time"

I can still drop all three of my grown up Things to the floor, laughing themselves stupid, by stating that last line......

The series is also why/how they all tried and enjoyed chutney.......

Keep us posted when you find out more please........

myotherself -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 5:53:38 AM)

For me, it has to be the dog milk scene.

Where Lister complains that the coffee tastes funny cos the milk must have gone off.

Cat replies that it's not cow's milk, that ran out months ago.

Lister asks what it is.

Cat replies that it's dog milk.

Lister spits coffee everywhere.

Cat replies that dog milk tastes the same whether it's fresh or gone off....[:'(]

Anaxagoras -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 9:59:13 AM)

I'll always remember Red Dwarf for use of the word smeg, adapted from smegma. Not sure if they invented it but its like their catchphrase. I thought Rimmer was the best character, while the Cat was somewhat redundant although I think he wore some pretty cool fetishistic clothing. I hope the new series does justice to the spirit of the original.

Lucylastic -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 10:13:40 AM)

Craig Charles is gettin up there tho isnt he?
I loved the old holly.
And one of listers early  "girlfriends", christine kachanski? was lead singer(clair grogan) in a group called altered images who sang....   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgqD826HGuI and a couple more hits in the early 80s (81 I believe and 82 in the UK).
Smegma wasnt coined first by them, not by any stretch of the imagination(Its nastier(imnsho) than just saying dickcheese) BUT Smeghead was a common insult from lads from lancashire/yorkshire and liverpool soccer fans back in the seventies, so its been around a long time.LOL

Anaxagoras -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 10:31:42 AM)

I like this sketch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRq_SAuQDec - it reminds me of the question "Are toasters intelligent" - if not then how do they know how to do the toast exactly as i like it? [:D]

Smegma seems to be a medical term but I thought there was a chance the writers had adapted it to smeg as they used it all the time, and its not used where I grew up, just saw it on "The 'Dwarf".

Smegma is a medical term, derived (I believe) from the word "smectic" meaning "soaplike". I know this cos I did some postgrad work on polymers. There was a running joke when the postgrads gave their annual presentation to the faculty (postgrads and undergrads), who could use the phrase "smectic, meaning soaplike" without giggling or smirking[:D]

Although one year a colleague got really stressed and nervous before his presentation and said "smectic, meaning smeglike". Now THAT is humour!

Lucylastic -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 10:48:03 AM)

nods at da cute bunny
a sebaceous secretion in the folds of the skin, especially under a man's foreskin. And clitoris too!!
urban dictionary says way too much
thesaurus for smegma:
penis cheese foreskin dick cheese smeg dick cum cock vagina jizz sex shit cunt pussy dirty duck butter circumcision cock cheese uncircumcised balls more... 1. smegma

Buildup of skin and other crud found between the foreskin and penisyuck...check out all the Smegma underneath my foreskin...DUUUUUUUUUDE! 2.
smegma

a delicious butter substitute"Would you care for a slice of bread and smegma?" 3.

Foul cheese like buildup that comes from not washing or properly maintaining equipment. It comes from NOT WASHING YOUR DISGUSTING TWAT/COCK!
You have smegma leaking from your pants you dirty fuckwad!

Shame it doesn't mean "cheeselike". [:D]

I knew smeg meant "cheesy knob rot" (TM) but didn't know it involved women too... what with that issue and the stank, it does seem that generally speaking women have a lot on their er... furry plate! [8D]

DavidLee44UK -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 11:14:42 AM)

subrob1967 -> RE: red dwarf new series (8/5/2011 11:43:28 AM)

I own the series on DVD, Amazon had it on sale for 75% off a few months ago... Back to Earth really sucked, both Charles and Barre sleep walked through the show.

But they did a great job with the Dr Who reboot, so I'll give it a shot.
