You're getting bad-tempered because your cocoa's gone cold and your blanket's fallen off your knees again, RF. You should call Nursey!

That's a heinous slur, and I'm reporting you to the Mods!

I'm actually grumpy coz I wet myself over an hour ago, and no-one's been along to change me.

Can we just skip to the bit where I call you a clueless cunt and we all agree I'm lovely? ;)

Well, whatever. Anyway, I'm so used to research of this kind turning out to be utter bollocks, I can hardly be bothered to look into it. Beats starting threads about how some disturbing-looking scientist who's still a virgin at 65 has "irrefutable evidence" that women make better Greco-Roman wrestlers or Martian astronauts than men [or similar], though.

Perhaps just banning the people who make threads about such silly reseach should have an insta-ban..

...wait a mo... ;op

I think what people don't grasp, Lady A, is that science is a business just like any other. If anyone can come up with some 'exciting, hitherto undiscovered difference' between men and women, or black people and white people, or people with big noses as opposed to short, etc, etc, etc . . . then they'll publish, and earn themselves a few bob from those who get their jollies from this sort of paltry drivel. Quite often, these days, I think that all psychological/social researchers really do is find new ways of enabling people to stick metaphorical needles in each other's bottoms.

Nae worries, Lady A. I just like a bit of a rant sometimes about my own personal thorns, that's all. ;-)

I would think the correlation would not be IQ but age. Older users probably started with Windows 95 or earlier and don't feel up to learning a whole new browser. I sure don't despite an IQ in the 130's.

And 8 years of favorites are on IE. Yes this machine is that old.

The teen installed Firefox on here and I didn't make him delete it. But I wish he could copy over my bookmarks because I can't get it to do that. He himself is now on a Mac so I guess he's using Safari.

In Firefox, go to File, then Import. It will allow you to import bookmarks and other things from IE.

That said, I'd recommend Google Bookmarks or Delicious which are social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing, and discovering web bookmarks, though you can keep all your bookmarks private. This allows you to access your bookmarks from any browser and any computer. Now that's what geniuses do ;-)

You have a hell of alot of redeeming to do in my eyes after that bunch of fucking bullshit. Suggesting someone even be "talked to" about something they believe, much less what they didn't even say they believe is an anaethma to free speech everywhere.

I would whip you with bass guitar strings until your entire ass falls off and then fry it up in my skillet. In fact I would do much worse. LOLOL

You have only the right to stifle yourself. Don't foget it.

First of all kick his ass. Second of all realize that the internet ALWAYS goes through IE on a Windows machine.

My Computer>X:(bootdrive)\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

There it is. Put a shortcut to it on the desktop, also in IE6 (etc.) you can make multiple instances open without bullshit. Just minimize the current window and click it up again.

Want favorites ?

X(bootdrive):\Documents And Settings\[username]\Favorites

Just throw that on the desktop in a folder and clicking any one of them will throw it up in your default browser. So you can get to it from there in whatever browser or if you want it in IE just open IE first and it'll be right there in favorites. Your choice. Make it a shortcut to that folder and new links are there automatically, in fact Windows I think will do that automatically, but still just right click the folder and go to "Send to desktop (create shortcut). Don't copy it or new links will not appear.

Settimg the default browser is probably in internet properties somewhere, that will be in Control Panel. I don't know what to tell you about that, but if I have access to the sendto menu you can force any link into any browser you prefer, without changing the default. I use this to force files to open in the program I choose, rather than changing the default. Vista doesn't seem to want to let me do it, but I will figure it out if I don't take that piece of shit out back and shoot it.

Oh, am I stupid for shooting ? Well whatever I shoot has a fucking IQ of ZERO.

I hate IE. I use Firefox. But I'm curious why others don't like FF and/or the damage it's done?

I haven't heard of Chrome.  Can someone bring me up to speed?

FF has a very specific look & feel (L&F) (the feel in particular in FF's case), which people tend to either like a lot, or think is terrible. I'm in the latter camp.

There's nothing "wrong" with it as a browser, per se - it's all just personal preference. If you like FF, stick with FF.

*boggle* You're kidding, yes?

Chrome is Google's idea of a browser; it's got a L&F closer to IE than FF, but with a much cleaned up look. It's fairly solid, use-wise, and is growing in popularity.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=google+chrome

I use IE and Chrome on my "personal" laptop (there are still some sites, like my bank's, that don't like anything except IE, since that's what most commercial test folk use to test with).

On the "work" laptop I have all three, in order to confirm what my techies tell me, in terms of a given site working, or not, with IE, FF or Chrome.

NURSE! Uncle Fred's gone doolally again. Shove another thorazine down the old fart!

I see you're giving out tech advice again. You know you shouldn't be doing that unless the topic is "old tin boxes and where to dump them".

Why do all these motherfuckers around here who disagree with me keep mentioning thorazine ? I don't even know what it does, but it seems to have alot of salesmen. Perhaps to get me on a different wagon or some shit ?

Keep your fucking drugs, and quit blaming your inability to convince me of anything on drugs. Fuck you I don't do drugs and I haven't even had a fucking aspirin in over thirty years.

Be a trustee of modren chemistry, it's not for me. If you can't accept that, tough motherfuckning shit.

And THAT MEANS YOU !

Oh yes oh ANOTHER omnipotent one. If I agree with you, you will say that I don't need to do drugs like thorazine to be normal.

Good fucking luck with that theory God.

I use FF, IE and Opera.... bit of a switch I think.
I won't use chrome... don't see the use of it.

Oh.. and I'm a bit of webdesigner too... but I have this silly idea of what is working properly, you won't throw away to get something newer.
I will not buy meself a new pc every 2 or 3 years, when my old one is still fine.

just a remark

I use Firefox as my primary browser and Opera as my backup. I wish I could still use Chrome (which causes BSODs on the PC I'm currently using) because it's zippy and it has some extensions that I like. I refuse to use IE because I hate the way its security options are set up.

I really don't see any legitimate reason for an attempt to link browser choice to IQ.

you guys have heard that this was a hoax right? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-14370878 the link was updated to reflect that.
people who get all superior because of their preferred browser have never made sense to me -- it's an internet browser. i liked IE, i like FF. i haven't used Chrome but i'm purposefully waiting to try it until all the "look how cool i am, i use chrome!" idiocy dies down.
