So I watched 3 episodes of it and something bothers me.

Wouldn't the publicity of it all-  hinder any recovery?    The guys who founded AA-  did not use their last name.   As this would have ruined their sobriety.

The show seems to be-  not A list-  heck not B list-    so called celebrities who want 15 mins of fame.

I dont view this show as on par with Intervention.

Isnt recovery a personal matter?

I think Steven Adler is entertaining. I would love to see him bitch slap Amy Fisher or vice versa.

One of the reasons why Alcohohics Anonymous was anonymous was because in the beginning there was such a stigma attached to being an alcoholic. Alcoholics were objects of derision. It is one of the reasons why it is still usually kept hidden deep in the family: the shame of it, although the publicity of celebrity has made it less so. Wives covering for husbands, children hiding it from friends, husbands making excuses for their wives. People were ashamed.
So, if it was found out that a doctor in town was a drunk (even a recovering one) he would lose his practice.

It is also that with anonymity comes safety of what is said in the rooms stays in the rooms.

AA was founded with anonymity because at the time addiction was seen as a moral failing, not an illness. Since in the modern world we know this is a medical issue, there is no reason to be ashamed. In other words, telling your boss that you can't wine and dine a client because you're a recovering alcoholic will get you understanding, not booted out.

There is no real reason for the shroud of silence nowadays. In fact, it's helpful to others if you are honest about it as they can then see that your recovery allows you to do anything you want, except drink. It gives them hope and someone to turn to for help taking that first step.

I've told the teen, who got sober a couple of months ago, that he needs to adopt Robert Downey Jr's line, because it stops his friends telling him he isn't really an alcoholic and just a beer or two won't hurt. He is and it will.

Not familiar with the show and doubt i would watch it, sounds a bit like Big Brother with a drug theme (didn't they also "reveal" shocking or not so shocking secrets regularly to keep the ratings up?) heck, checking into rehab publicly has been good for headlines for the past few years, I thought the latest "in" addiction was sex addiction, especially for guys to give a failing career a new lift...

sex addiction is passe....been done people are bored of it  lol.

as for celebrity rehab, it's a reality show like all the other reality shows on tv. They're not about the actual reality these people are living. It's about how many people will watch them so they can make money.

The show has ZILCH to do with addictions lol

Bummer, shows how much I read the gossip rags... I'm not even up to date with which addiction is currently in, though some guys having a sex addiction and being on a lonely island with them could be fun... A lonely island with a dungeon, ho hum...

http://www.vh1.com/shows/celebrity_rehab_with_dr_drew/season_5/series.jhtml   It has not been as dreadful as I thought it would be-  more phony and diva like.     Micheal Loham is in it-  Lindsey Lohams dad.
