AA was founded with anonymity because at the time addiction was seen as a moral failing, not an illness. Since in the modern world we know this is a medical issue, there is no reason to be ashamed. In other words, telling your boss that you can't wine and dine a client because you're a recovering alcoholic will get you understanding, not booted out. There is no real reason for the shroud of silence nowadays. In fact, it's helpful to others if you are honest about it as they can then see that your recovery allows you to do anything you want, except drink. It gives them hope and someone to turn to for help taking that first step. I've told the teen, who got sober a couple of months ago, that he needs to adopt Robert Downey Jr's line, because it stops his friends telling him he isn't really an alcoholic and just a beer or two won't hurt. He is and it will.
