How about using both?  I do.

Same here, I like the different approaches they have, from having worked for print and online, it's a completely different style of writing and what works for one doesn't always work for the other. Online it's very quick, short, to the point as distraction is just a click away, in print you are having the paper in your hand, there can be more explanation, more background, more setting the mood, etc.

Difference between a meal for enjoyment and eating because the body needs fuel.

Plus I really don't want to sit down and have breakfast in front of a screen, I want to pick up the paper and read it while drinking coffee. While I think the Kindle is a great thing, especially if I'm on a train or plane and don't want to carry too much with me, when I am at home I still prefer the old fashioned paper book, something where I can turn the pages and all that.

Totally agree with LadyC. I work in digital media sales and despite our accelerated technology and the various ways we consume information, I still like to read the old fashioned way.

I like that we have options though.

I look for the local paper when I have to take the train into the city. It has more puzzles than any of the others, and that occupies more of the trip. When I get there, I read the Times. But up here they don't do home delivery of the Times. We're too rural to make it cost effective.

The NY Times? That's a non-Murdoch paper isn't it?

I do my best to avoid all forms of news media. I have found that I'm much happier since I stopped knowing about all the negative shit. Every now & again something crosses my path, but I don't go seeking it out.

I like to be informed what goes on in the world, as it often has a direct impact on my work, working for a company that deals internationally, not being informed about current events can be lethal, plus while I am aware that the world is far from perfect, I prefer to know what kind of shit I am dealing with, not knowing seems to me a bit like ostrich policy. It's my choice how much I let it affect me and pretty often something that is really depressing has inspired me to say sod it, no going out this weekend, there's serious shit happening in the world, blowing a few hundred on a nice night or weekend in a big city is great fun, but if I read about kids starving, I feel like shit if I do it, so my excuse or escape is to give that money to a respected charity that deals with the particular problem, feel a lot better about it and I can enjoy the next weekend out, plus while I stay in I usually get stir crazy and pick up a quick freelance job.

Now of course that is a shallow way of pacifying my own guilty feelings, but you know, somebody who's struggling for survival might welcome £300 to £500 - and I don't think they are too concerned about the motivation of the person who gave them food or a roof. Would I be a truly good person, I'd possibly give away anything but the bare minimum I need to live, but I'm not, I'm aware of that, but sod it, at least I am doing a little bit instead of just ignoring it all, it makes me feel better, it possibly helps somebody, win win.

Believe me, I've tried to keep abreast of the news. I'm happy that you have the choice of how it affects you. Right here we're talking about life & death to me & I'm seriously not being dramatic. It's in the hard-wiring, I guess. I discovered that I cannot survive if I let that shit into my brain. I'm happy that you & all the rest of the people who can, can do it. I cannot. Call me ostrich, call me whatever. I need to survive. And, believe it or not, I'm ok being me & I'm ok with you being you.

No...printed words are dirty, and the ink can rub off on your hands. It's kind of gross.

The only thing I'll do in print is a crossword or sudoku once in a blue moon, I read my news online and I read my books on my Kindle app.

I haven't bought or read an actual paper newspaper in probably at least 10 years.

I go online every single morning to read the local and international news and a few other news websites while I'm drinking my coffee.

I need to hold the paper in my hand...and turn the damm pages.I feel the same way about books...no kindles for me.My son tells me I am hopelessly outdated...perhaps so,but there is no greater joy than sitting down with the Sunday Times,a good cup of strong coffee...or two..and reading my way thru the various sections.
I even have an order in which I do so...the Book Review section is first...followed by Sports...than the opinion section....followed by the main news section.Sunday Magazine is reserved for later in the week...the style section is totally disregarded...style is why GQ magazine was published

I like modern technology like Kindles, but you can't dip your Kindle in your breakfast, which is vital for me to get the full effect :)

It’s that “horses for courses” thing for me; Kindles for travel reading and being able to pull out something and read whenever there's a lull in the work (not that that's often an option for me), “proper” books for those you really want a physical copy of, and newspapers for casual reading in one’s dressing gown, drinking coffee and dipping into your brekkie :)

I am similar. I like to read about the local news - and I mean very local - but if I watch or read about any real hard news, I find it hard to get out of my head and my heart. I tend to carry it with me, and have been known to spontaneously cry in the lunchroom due to a story I read that morning about a fire and the like. It's just plain old easier for me to survive without all of that running around in my head all the time.

I mostly check out the local weather online; though occasionally, a piece of news may slip under the radar.
