People's people: they are the way they are, and it cut's both ways to some extent. Seducing the submissive into a state of acquiescence is ostensibly part of the dominants job: some submissives embrace this, even to the point of complaining a dominant isn't "dominant enough", others have pretty strict boundaries on what, when, where, how, and why - i.e., many subs enjoy public humiliation, others may fantasize about it but would not do it for practical reasons - a job that entails interacting with the public, children, etc., other simply cannot countenance going there, for whatever reasons, personal issues, past experience, etc., once bitten, twice shy, etc., and a bad past experience can make a person reluctant to repeat it, that's called common sense. In any case, there is no way to make a blanket statement the begins "all subs", etc. because every sub is an individual with their own personality, expectations, etc., you work with what you've got or you move on. It may be that because BDSM is somewhat more fashionable now than it has been in the past, there are a lot of people who are into the more superficial roleplay aspects and may not really identify with the deeper urges to satisfy their need for dominance or submission - that's fine, that's the way they are, it is consensual, not mandatory, and you can't paint everybody with the same brush.
