The USSR had  a price fixe on the ruble, and the Chinese a price fixe on their currency, both have dropped it, but the Chinese are still not floating it and are keeping it artificially high.

Gold is a gold colored metal,  you cant eat it.  I suppose you could eat paper, so actually paper would have slightly more value.

It's actually cloth. It wouldn't digest well.

From the US Treasury website:

"The paper that the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) uses to produce our currency is "distinctive." A paper manufacturer produces it according to BEP specifications. It is composed of 75 percent cotton and 25 percent linen. The paper also contains red and blue fibers of various lengths that are evenly distributed throughout the paper."

Where were you and she in 2002 when the dollar started it's decline?

Oh yeah. Waving flags and urging Bush on. Well done.

Not to mention that there was little difference in the decline of the dollar under Bush and Clinton, so "started its decline" is bs, and Bush had much more oil disruption to deal with.

Correlate the massive borrowing for the war with the decline. You'll see what I'm talking about.

You've never heard of edible undies.

Musicmystery -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:30:08 AM)

Made from cotton and linen? No.

mnottertail -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:34:46 AM)

cotton and linen are plants, MM.  And I think the flax would make some of the anally retentive a little looser in the bowels.  [:D]

Musicmystery -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:35:52 AM)

Belladonna is a plant too.

You chow down first.

mnottertail -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:41:14 AM)

Actually:

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn10612-edible-cotton-breakthrough-may-help-feed-the-world.html

and flax has been edible since before there were women to tie up.

But this is just a friendly joust.

Pure gold is not poisonous, but Cortez may take issues with that.  The impurities found within non pure gold are.

You may think of it as a toxic asset for more reasons than one.[:D]

But this does not help us explain finance and economics, so I will bow out, after this.

It doesnt do any good to explain it because the innumerate and tinfoilers equally don't get it.

Musicmystery -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:43:29 AM)

I did note while doing a quick search is that the consensus is that edible undies taste terrible.

Me? I like to just toss off the undies and dive in. My lady has no complaints.

Hadn't thought of that. Homeopathists will be happy!

mnottertail -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:46:54 AM)

Again, check with the 'fair and balanced' Hernando Cortez, for an alternative view.

Musicmystery -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 10:52:18 AM)

Not to mention Doritos' take on it....

When Hernan Cortez conquered Mexico in 1521, he not only captured the vast wealth of Aztec gold, but he also introduced the world to the perfect snack – the tortilla. Doritos are tortilla corn chips – literally translated from the Spanish "Doritos" means "little bits of gold". We would love to be able to say that Cortez saw the Aztecs eating tortillas and named them "Doritos", but that would be a lie.

In 1984 Doritos Tortilla chips rose up from Mexico and made their way across the Pacific to take Australia by storm. Finally snack-starved Aussies were able to dive into irresistible bags of Doritos. In 2010 the globally loved corn chips jumped the Tasman in to New Zealand to become Kiwi's favourite corn chips.

I agree! I want to get a $600 paycheck every week and be able to go buy a brand new car for $1500 And my house only cost about $15,000 like back in the 1950s. And my god, my food budget would SKYROCKET! O.O

Unfortunately, I have a brain in my head and understand how (at least on a rudimentary level) inflation and such work. Unlike her.

And actually, MNOttertail, you can eat gold. I use gold leaf all the time for work.

Musicmystery -> RE: Bachmann show again how little she know... (7/2/2011 11:02:07 AM)

Just for fun....

What cost $600 in 1950 would cost $5373.74 in 2010.
What cost $1500 in 1950 would cost $13434.34 in 2010.
What cost $15000 in 1950 would cost $134343.40 in 2010.

So a little adjustment needed.....but we get the point nonetheless.

What it correlates with doesnt matter. It didnt start in 2002 whatever the causes.

Took a fall in 2000, and another in 2002.

And what you were paid $1500 for in 1951 youd be paid 21,816.34 for in 2010.

So a little adjustment is needed...but we get the point nonetheless.

It took falls in virtually every year. Once again the cumulative decline during the Clinton and Bush administrations was about the same, so claiming it started in 2002 cant be spun no matter how hard you try.
