*snort*

yeah... right..

I think that any animals regularly exposed to the public, whether on or off leashes (sometimes they escape before the leash can be attached) should not only have a license so that they can be returned to their owners when found, but also have tags showing immunization against disease of all kind that can manifest in one kind in the animal but manifest in a similar way in humans. Both dogs and cats nip and use their claws. Rabies is spread into the blood stream thru saliva. Even if the animal is just playing accidents where blood is drawn DO happen.
And if one ever sees a raccoon during the day give it a wide berth and call the local animal control. They are  nocturnal by nature and if they're out during the day, something is wrong with the system.

I wouldnt be surprised if the requirements were similar to moving overseas...

which then would depend on the country you come from and the one which you go to.

If I would have moved from the UK to New Zealand then no quarantaine would be necessary as UK is considered to be rabies free...on the system it did show differently that it would be required if I would move now from Germany to NZ....though that should change if my mum is right that Germany was also recently finally considered as being rabies free....

No license here for cats...thank god...though dogs are licensed and as more you have as more expensive their licenses go, which seems to be one way to discourage people from having too many dogs....

If I dropped my cat off 20 miles away she would find her way home.  She knows where she lives.

LillyBoPeep -> RE: Does your state require license for cats? (6/30/2011 5:45:33 AM)

my dog knows his way home, too, but that doesn't prevent someone from picking him up and dropping him off at the pound between wherever and home.

Most states hunky, they won't issue a license without immunization. It's simultaneous at the vet office.

Here you only license your dogs, but your cat does get a rabies tag at the vets. Since mine are confined to their own house and yard(10 ft fences), I do not put collars on them. But my Princess who loves her leash walkies has hers hung on her leash. But all mine are chipped to insure a safe return home, just in case.

In my state cats don't drive.

Since I built them a house, mine just asked if I'd get them a car too.[8|]

Welll, my Princess has her own kitty stroller complete with a covered area in back, built in cup holder for me, built in water dish for her, and a fur covered pad in it for Her Majesties comfort, she does have personalized plates on it, lol, it even has blinking lights for nighttime.

Yes, I am an idiot, I paid over 300 bucks for it. But she loves it for going downtown or shopping for tunafish.

Check with your local Humane League and SPCA, some of them do it for a minimal fee now. My youngest is a vet, sooo...I got mine for free.

Any chance of getting some pics of that sweet kitty ride?

LaTigresse -> RE: Does your state require license for cats? (6/30/2011 12:05:58 PM)

I don't believe so but I am not 100% sure.

I think it is probably by city or county rather than state.

It seems LAT- that if a license is needed- that a city/county would be better suited then a state wide thing.

It doubles as a carrier or a car seat as well. The body is removable from the frame. It is from Kitty Walk.

and another;

Hard limit? LMAO.....OK,so The Princess is a bit spoiled, while I am confessing to my idiocy.....She also has two indoor kitty house, one 4 story one called, by the Manufacturer, the City place, one called the Country cottage, both have windows, roofs to lounge on, etc. Since I am confessing, she also has her own sleigh, she loves snow, her own small clear bottomed boatie for watching tadpoles and minnows in the creek, a sliding board she loves, and a private bridge for crossing the space over the yard so she can get from one garage roof to the other and spy on the neighbors.

In my defense, my kids and grands are scattered across the country, I live by myself most of the time, so she is my daily companion. Until last Oct, she was the only cat in the house.

Below is one of the houses, a baby pic. She currently is 24 inches long, not counting her tail, and weighs almost 18lbs.
