Should Restaurants Charge Extra For Not Putting Ice In Your Soda?

Hillwilliam -> RE: Should Restaurants Charge Extra For Not Putting Ice In Your Soda? (6/29/2011 12:46:54 PM)

Most have free refills anyway.

if they charge extra for no ice, then they should deduct when they give you a whole cup full of ice and a few drops of beverage. =p

Naw... this is just one of my button issues (one of the minor ones to be sure, but still a button issue).

The copious use of "Fuck" or any of its variants is a sure sign that someones button has been pushed.

As a consumer, I say no way. As the owner of the business, perhaps it has some merit.

I remember a few years back I had to pay extra to NOT be published in the phone book.
It made absolutely no sense to me. [:-]

The Man takes it with all ice and very little soda. Honestly, he could just get a glass of ice water considering the amount of soda he gets.

Now my oldest is a no ice girl, but if they charge her extra, then they should give The Man his for free. You can't have it both ways.

And I'll take Marc's lemon, please.

There's a restaurant that charges 50 cents for celery and another 50 cents for bleu cheese dressing for hot wings. It was the first time Master and I had ever heard of a place actually charging for those things when they should be a standard part of the hot wings meal.

We never went back lol.

Sorry but if something..like ice...is a standard part of a meal and you decide to start charging for it, expect to start losing a lot of customers.

Ridiculous.  There are a lot of restaurants that make darn near all their profit on selling sodas that cost a few pennies, for serious money.  If they're getting so cheap that they can't give a few cents' worth of soda for which they get paid a dollar or so, I'd go somewhere else.

Kind of funny they think the soda cost more then the ice.   (in a way)

This is the same thing as my thinking that if they are going to charge extra for another slice of cheese on a sandwich that comes with cheese, they should deduct for people like me who ask for no cheese. If they're giving free refills, they shouldn't have a problem with giving someone soda with no ice. And if they do charge, it's a case of being penny wise & pound foolish because some people will stop going there. Actually, given the results of this poll, probably most people will not go back.

So far, I've never been to a restaurant where they charged more for sodas without ice. Don't even have a problem with it when I go through McD's drive-through.

And they're right.  Ice is water that's been frozen.

I don't know where y'all live, but where I am in SoCali it's almost impossible to get a soda with more than 3 cubes of ice unless you pour it yourself. I'm a 'fill the cup with ice and add soda' person, so it's really annoying. Even when I ask for lots of extra ice at MickeyD's, I get... 5 cubes. [>:]

tj444 -> RE: Should Restaurants Charge Extra For Not Putting Ice In Your Soda? (6/29/2011 9:29:32 PM)

I dont really care since I dont usually order soda in a Restaurant. TOO expensive!
I just order a glass of (free) H2O instead. Sometimes I might order hot tea but depends on how much they charge.

Restaurants I go to give you free refills on soda, the idea that they would charge extra seems just odd to me

"Sonic's Happy Hour promotion is designed to give our customers their favorite drink at a 50% discount. Local markets and operators always have flexibility in their pricing and this operator has chosen to charge for no ice during Happy Hour. We are following up with the operator to discuss the policy with them as that policy does not follow the intent of the Happy Hour promotion."

If its me, im going to drink as much soda as i want, with or without ice.

GreedyTop -> RE: Should Restaurants Charge Extra For Not Putting Ice In Your Soda? (6/30/2011 1:02:17 AM)

charge me extra for no ice?? WTF?  I'm SAVING you money on your electric...  by me not using copiuous amounts of ice (or more than 2-3 cubes) your machine doesnt need to make as much!!
