is that he heard these two songs at an early and impressionable point in life:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNQXQKflJNA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=530Hqoamf3Q

The Edwin Hawkins Singers sang their lungs out, on both records.

Not enough people listened to these -voices- and understood it.

I am not myself into conventional theology, but anybody who does not fall to the floor and weep at 1:20 or 2:21 in the first video does not have a soul.

I am talking about the singing here. It blows away everything else.

We cannot help but pick ourselves up and walk happily forward when the hand claps start at 3:12.

I love, love, love "Oh Happy Day" and it will be on the playlist I select for my funeral.

How about this one also?

Andre Crouch "I'll Be Thinking of You"

or

Aretha Franklin "I Say a Little Prayer"

Or this one?
This has to be played, loudly!

Chaka Kahn "Roll me through the rushes"

I must be seeing things if Edwynn started a thread about "Oh Happy Day" sung by Edwyn Hawkins on CollarMe, I may be seeing things or on my way to the rapture, but I don't hear the harps yet.

They did not use any electronic/digital devices in that day, and your ears are 'behind the curve' in capacity to take notice of real acoustical events in this regard. Count yourself among many.

I understand your disdain there.

This is how it works to the modern ear. Trust me on this.

Hannah you did not fall to floor and weep?
Maybe this might at least make you smile.

Lee Ann Womack "I Hope you Dance"

The commercial is just a few seconds, the video is good quality.

Yes Marini, even if I  find myself in the doldrums sometimes, I try to get out of it.

And thank you for your positive response.

As can be seen here, there will always be some flies to swat away, however quick to the scene they are.

I ran a spotlight for a Chaka Kahn show years ago.

She completely blew the house away.

Thank you for making me smile tonight, Edwynn.

Chaka Kahn still and always will blow me away.

Thanks for this thread, it's interesting to see another "side" of Edwynn.

Marini, I also ran spotlight for this show, and she and the boys sang it almost -exactly- like this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oOfrwgA76E&feature=related

Twenty-five years ago, I still remember every minute of it, aside from that song.

The reason that you don't see this side of me much is because anytime I or someone else attempts to say anything positive, somebody comes in and shits on the floor in two seconds. Every time.

I get tired of being chased around for that. They are not here in r/l to put a hard heel to cheek as would befit the situation.

you post a couple of tunes by a gospel choir that i don't happen to find all that astounding and its a flaw in my ability to hear and i'm a fly to be fucking swatted away? well bugger me in church on sunday if you aren't the most insufferably fucking arrogant dickhead that ever was born.

marini. i liked the franklin piece and the womack piece i really fucking like. her voice is great.

here's a fucking song that can be interpreted in a very christian way that i really like. it has a great lead voice and a really nice choral backing as well. enjoy.

A better version of this song, sorry I did not insert it in the original post:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOExGVgQzRg

This was about enlightening people and changing minds. Safe to say that most of the audience in this video are dead by now.

Too bad the spirit did not carry.

Anybody who can actually fucking listen to fucking Sarah Brightman for more than two fucking seconds deserves my fucking respect.

The point, Hannah, in the original post, had nothing to do with any religion at all. Sorry if my minimal effort to explain that point fell short of the mark for some.

It was just the sheer -Joy- in those voices. That is what this young mind heard, and that was all I was trying to convey in the OP.

i didn't particularly hear that, sorry. there was more of that in the 2nd melanie clip i think.

the christian reference was for marini. she's a christian so i thought she might fucking appreciate a song with an somewhat inspirational message that could be interpreted in a christian context. to me the fucking lyrics of that song has always made me think its about being born again.
