I thought I'd give it a shot and ask you folks what you think would be different had the Civil Rights movement of the 1960's never happened, both in your personal life and on a global scale.

Corporations would be a lot happier and bitch less about overhead.
And with an imposed sub-class of American, there would probably be less incentive for their sabotage of US immigration policy... the people they could pay a shit wage to would be 'built-in'.

Are you asking for advice/help/information/ideas from any other areas? I assume so but it would be interesting to know if there was a vastly different response from a vaniila website or a religous website or a science website or any other for that matter. Not helpful I know and good luck with your paper but just wondering....

Never mind black vs white civil rights for a moment and reach into cross border culture. Say the Mexicans for instance hadn't had the participation/ benefit of the civil rights movement. Beyond the cheap labor/virtual slavery issues, we wouldn't be seeing the playing out of corporations creating controversy over a vodka ad aired in Mexico and nostalgia about borders ... check this video out, it's worth the few minutes of human-fistula Lou Dobbs you have to tolerate to get to the part where you get to listen to Absolute Vodka's voicemail disclaimer listen carefully to their final sentence.. it's rich:

My point is simply that without the civil; rights movement, would mexico even be a place where American companies developed marketing for? Never mind their shitty ("psst ... we're not in America now, so we can promote the 'chicano movement').

Another question I would ask is how far along would the 'gay rights' and feminist movements have come in the wake of the black/white struggle. Or is the intention of the assignment to lump all the various 'rights' movements together?

In fact, I think that the Americans with Disabilities Act would not have passed without it. Nor would school provided meals, nor mainstreaming of special ed kids, nor giving them the help they needed. Nor would sexual harassment be discouraged in almost every company of any size. The idea that everyone is entitled under the law to a fair shake was given teeth by the passage of this law.

Really excellent points about the end result... Send cookies
