PA, you still aren't getting it.  Those ladies BROKE the law.  They and you don't have to agree with it but if i were those cops and my job was on the line if i didn't write them a ticket --- which it did sound like that's pretty much what the cops were told -- i.e., by warning people instead of writing tickets it could be seen they weren't doing anything all day -- i damn well would write an accurate ticket.  Which these cops did.

The day it becomes illegal for you to breath and you break the law and it comes down between you getting a ticket and a cop getting reprimanded for not doing his job -- i sure the hell hopes he writes the ticket.

Perhaps you think putting their job in jeopardy is what they should have done... and perhaps you think its okay if they would have gotten reprimanded for not giving a ticket.  But in the end, these ladies broke the law and were cited for it. THAT is all.  They now have a chance to go to court and a court will decide if they are found guilty or innocent.

Writing the ticket isn't the end all be all, if they feel they shouldn't have to abide by the law and thing being cited is extreme, then they need to tell the court that.  The cops were doing their jobs and doing their jobs effectively so that THEIR livelihood remains intact.

But i guess that isn't as important as a couple ladies being cited for sitting someplace they shouldn't have been.

Yeah, this is kinda stupid.

She broke the law plain and simple. That law is made to keep kids safe. For all we know she could have been a predator and the donuts were her cover. Yes it sucks but the law is the law and no one is above it, not even those who think they are(Talking about you mister GB jr)

Anywho I find it hard to believe that she had DONUTS and still got a ticket. Those things can let you get away with murder, I am not jokeing I got away with an illegal turn onto a one way street(the sign had been blown down in a storm) all because I just happened to have a box of Krispy Kremes next to me.

The op is neither here nor there for me but there is a wider issue that offends me; the presumption of guilt.

Parks should be for everyone not just those that decided to blight the world with their offspring. All they have to do to keep them safe is to keep their eye on them; there is no need to effect other innocent people's liberties.

Isn't there an ancient law which entitles adults to use roundabouts as an aid to vomiting, I think there is. Which law takes precedence?

I believe the intent of this law was probably a way to keep potential pedophiles away an area where children are around, not really about two ladies having a couple of doughnuts, yet they have to enforce the law evenly.  They have to be able to say to the creepy guy watching kids on the swings to move along and not be accused of being unfairly enforcing the law.

Thank you.

I think it is a sad testament to the state of society that we feel the need to make such laws. I guess it helps to alleviate the feelings of guilt while ignoring the more pressing needs of and dangers to children.

There is nothing stopping people from lobbying to make those different laws in those parks or at the very least a different penalty system.  I bet the reason they are there is because someone lobbied to put them there in the first place.

I'd be willing to support Tourist Lanes on sidewalks.

Sadder still is that the majority of victims of abuse know their attackers because they are either related to them or the person has acquired a position of authority over them (teacher, spiritual leader, coach). However people don't like to see this reality but would rather believe in the fictitious pervert in a trench coat type. Such an individual is a rarity if they exist at all. Even if there were one nearby you have to ask yourself what is going to happen, are they going try something with parents watching on? This isn't how it works and people ought to wake up because they are giving themselves a false sense of security with stupid signs.

Kirata you said it!!   I agree, any major city needs tourist lanes on the sidewalks!  LAst week we had CMA Music Fest here in Nashville --- tourists love it, people who live here (while we are happy it brings money in) hate it because of the tourists.

That was one of the things I was thinking about, yes. Stranger Danger is virtually non existent, the concept however has done a good deal of harm to society.
