I would say don't have unrealistic expectations. You're not likely to find a fake porn scene, at least not in my own experience.
The dungeon I go to is really nice...It's very large, it's clean and the people are friendly. There is also a changing room, a smoking room, and a large socializing area that is somewhat removed from the play space. So you can hang around and chitchat, have coffee, observe etc, if you don't want to play.
Further, I would say this: In my experience, the participants who are out there playing aren't there for your entertainment value. I think the wet-behind-the-ears spectators leave disappointed because they're under the unrealistic belief that they're going to visit the place and then leave feeling like they saw a good show. It's not a concert, a broadway play, or a baseball game.
It's just real life people of various body types, using the dungeon to enjoy themselves, their partners, and get their kink on. They don't give a fuck what anyone thinks of their body types, or their play style or whatever else. They're out there for their own enjoyment for their own reasons and they're making their own fun. If your friend is a naive gawker who's going to sit on the sidelines waiting for the show to begin, he/she will be sorely disappointed.
