Say you have an old friend who is curious about the real deal of WIITWD, as opposed to what is found in the wonderful world of internet porn, and were going to take him to a dungeon, what one thing would you think was most important to tell him before going inside?

"you may see nothing that bothers you, or you might see something you really don't like, but remember that everyone is free to practice kink their way, as long as they are consenting adults. just because someone does something doesn't mean that YOU have to do it, if you don't want to."

Be sure to read the dungeon rules that are provided for you.

I've never been to a dungeon, but I was going to say: The Rules.[:)]

That it will probably not be as scary/hot/titillating as he thinks.

That he's not likely to see anyone having sex, so if he's expecting that, he should probably change his expectation.  Kinky doesn't mean "orgy".

Also, he isn't likely to see any naked supermodels inside.  But he IS likely to see a really fat guy flogging an even fatter woman.  [:D]

Keep antiseptic on standby.  And bleach for his eyeballs.

to stay home because he's going to be disappointed on so many levels. i have found few things in life as fucking boring as going to a dungeon to observe.

I couldn't come up with just one thing.  First, don't touch what doesn't belong to you whether a toy or person without permission.  Second, never get too close to a scene in progress or ask questions of the people while they are having a scene.  Don't talk too loudly near a scene.

Most of all, enjoy yourself.  You'll see some really neat things you'll want to try yourself.  You'll also see some things that might scare you.  It's okay.  The atmosphere is super.

To keep his hands to himself unless invited, even if he'd otherwise consider the physical contact as something minor.

don't touch the wall either

That accepting financial advice from a hobo is probably a bad idea.

...oh, you meant things about the dungeon. Most of what immediately jumped to mind was covered by peppermint and VC already and could probably be covered by 'exercise extreme discretion' - unless you're personally addressed by somebody who's part of the scene, don't try to interact with them. Not even if they're your bestest friend in the whole wide world.

[People might scoff at some of what's already been posted because they think it's too obvious. It's too obvious for us salty old sea-dogs, yes, but the first time I was in a dungeon-type environment, I did everything in VC, peppermint and I have posted. I'm quite lucky that the people in the scene in question were a) not so much in a SCENE as just fucking around and b) understanding and chalked it up to general inexperience. The same will probably not be the case for you.]

MissDiandSirHugh -> RE: What one thing does a first time visitor to a dungeon need to know? (6/14/2011 3:58:57 AM)

We will not repeat what has already been said but also to tell that person that who ever they see in there is to be kept in there and not taken out side to anyone else even if it was that persons boss or work mate and no matter what side of the kneel they were on it that dungeon.
Let what ever happens in the future be written then by each of those people and done so as they wish it to be because the shock of seeing each other will bring up many different feelings as well as thoughts and questions so let those be asked at another time and done so discreetly and privately unless the one seen approaches and does not cause a commotion but is understanding and maybe even helpful.

VaguelyCurious -> RE: What one thing does a first time visitor to a dungeon need to know? (6/14/2011 6:19:59 AM)

Actually, I'd also say this:

Know who the people in authority are (by which I mean monitors and organisers, not UberCapitalised!Masters) and don't hesitate to ask for a chat with them if you see something that makes you feel concerned or uncomfortable. Don't allow yourself to leave the venue distressed, because then you'll never want to come back.

VC (who at her first ever event was dragged to the front of the spectator crowd to watch some hardcore omfgthatlookspainful!CBT, and can easily see how that would send people running if they'd left halfway through and not seen how happy the guy was afterwards.)

SpiritedRadiance -> RE: What one thing does a first time visitor to a dungeon need to know? (6/14/2011 6:23:14 AM)

If it isnt yours dont touch it.

Follow the rules.

interupting scenes are not only in bad taste but is consenting to non consensual pinata play. ( I HATE when people kill my buzz during a scene)

What happens in vegas stays in vegas. Don't run up to whores_around_a_lot in the mall when she is hanging out with her friends and be like "hey do you remember me from that play party you were tied to a post and screaming at the top of your lungs while that guy ... ".

Great idea!!!!!  However, it is possible to run into someone you met at the dungeon even a couple hundred miles from the dungeon.  It's happened to me.  They were obviously with elderly parents.  If that person is with others, do everyone a favor and just pass them by without feeling the need to say hello.  They will not feel insulted.

ranja -> RE: What one thing does a first time visitor to a dungeon need to know? (6/14/2011 9:14:09 AM)

oh and where the toilets are... don't touch anything in there either though
