best concert! Audio slave, Chris Cornell didn't sing any of his new songs so some fan said "you suck" so -Chris- jumped off stage and the bouncers had to call it off

we all started screaming encore and they finally came out and played 2 more songs! :D

Tom Morello is amazing. His solo with Springsteen on "Ghost of Tom Joab" last year was sick (starting at 6:50)

edited to add....one person I never saw in concert, but would have loved to is Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I saw him in his comeback (sober) tour in 1988, in a small outdoor venue.  It was an awesome show.  I consider myself very fortunate to have seen him.

KISS (the Omni, in ATL.. sometime in the 90s)

Tim McGraw (numerous times, but I was working for him then...)

The BEautiful South (again, was working for them on their 0898 tour)

Yeah, one of the few groups I havent seen that I wish I did. Audioslave doesnt quite match the Rage intensity and Ive never cared that much for Chris Cornell's voice (omg, heresy!). Zack dlR was perfect for that band.

If you love SRV then you should (if you havent already) give (recent) Joe Bonamassa a listen. He's the best around in that tradition.

Hippiekinkster -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/15/2011 4:25:24 PM)

There are so many different combos I could pick for a dream band. Jeff Beck, John Entwistle, Robert Plant, Vinnie Colaiuta...
Hendrix, John Bonham, Jack Bruce... Janis Joplin, John Cippolina, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casidy...

I have quite a few favorite concerts...
Led Zeppelin
Cream
Grateful Dead (with the Wall of Sound)
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Doors
Steppenwolf
Moody Blues
Jefferson Airplane

One of my favorite bands is It's A Beautiful Day out of San Francisco
"White Bird" - live

Saw 'em once in Richmond, VA at the Mosque, as part of VCUs concert series. Used to get in free 'cause the guy who headed the concert committee used to live in the same building. Huge black dude who used the get the best African weed...

Anyway, they did the obligatory 2 sets, then the lights came up. About 3/4 of the people left; a bunch of us stayed in our seats (don't know about anyone else; Andrew, his chick, Ellen and I were peaking [8D] ). After a few minutes, the band came out, said "now we know who our friends are," and proceeded to rock for another 2 hours or so. They're still at the top of my playlist whenever I want to chill, or am in an altered state. [sm=hippie.gif]

I'll check him out - thanks!

I almost forgot one sensational show - Etta James at War Memorial Auditorium in San Francisco, 2006.  Couldn't find anyone to go with so I bought myself one ticket, booked a hotel room, took myself to dinner before the show and had a great time.  The entire audience was on its feet, dancing, for most of the show (myself included).  That woman rocks.

Kana -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/16/2011 6:14:26 AM)

Oh man, I've been to thousands of concerts so this is tough. Some highlights:

-Grateful Dead New Years Eve-Oakland. The biggest party on earth.
-Lollapalooza 1(NiN,Janes Addiction, Siouxsie, Rollins, Ice-T) and 2(Soundgarden, Porno for Pyros, Pearl Jam, Chili's, Cypress Hill, RATM)
-Pearl Jam the day Cobaine died.
-King Crimson with Fripp, Belew, Levin and Bruford, maybe the best line up ever
-Gabriel on the Plays Live tour (His band was pretty much Crimson-Fripp)
-Sister Machine Gun/TKK/KMFDM triple bill.
-The infamous Public Enemy/Anthrax/ Faith No More show
-Simon and Garfunkel at Central Park
-Alice in Chains and Screaming Trees (And smoking dank backstage w/Layne)
-Edited to add Oh yeah, Bruce on The River tour...not to mention solo acoustic on The Ghost of Tom Joad tour

And also seeing bands at small venues for like $5 that later hit it big-bands like Tool, Jane's Addiction, GnR, Live, Chili's(Came out naked except for tubesox on their cocks), too many to name...

Second the Bonamassa nod. The man just smokes.

Funny story-saw SRV warm up once for Johnny Winter. SRV was good (And I'm an SRV fan, seen him a few times) but Mr. Winter just blew his ass off the stage.

The Dwarves show was about 1989 to 1991 (those years are kind of spotty and hazy) at the 6th Street Rendezvous in the glorious and luxurious Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. The Vandals opened and played an okay show, but when the Dwarves took the stage, it was pure animalistic primal punk rock with edge and emotion. Their set lasted perhaps, at best, 15 minutes, before it all dissolved into violence and debauchery. By this time I had been to plenty of hardcore punk shows, yet, here I was, in the midst of this maelstrom with actual fear and panic taking hold of me while another part of me felt carried away by the ferocity. I'd heard the legends about them before I went to the show, and the reality surpassed any attempt to describe how great they truly were.

If you are looking for any listening suggestions, then let me know, I can point you in the right direction there. I'd say to check out The Chemical People, The Angry Samoans, The Mentors, Leftover Crack, the Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, and maybe even some GG Allin.

NuevaVida -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/16/2011 11:08:36 AM)

One really cool show I saw was The Avett Brothers with Truth & Salvage opening. T&S were magical!! It was at the Crest in Sacramento and just amazing. I later saw them headline at Harlows. I'll see them whenever they come to town.

I had to come back to this thread to tell you Joe Bonamassa is on Paladia right now - they're showing him live at Royal Albert Hall.  I had never heard of him before your post.  What a great discovery! I'm enjoying this, so thank you.  I wouldn't have tuned in, if not for your recommendation. [:)]

And he's actually gotten better since then! Glad you enjoyed it. He's suprisingly unknown given that he won GC's Best Blues Guitarist in 2007 and has played ECs Crossroads Festival. Hell...it took a 9 year old on Americas Got Talent mentioning him before I really paid attention!

Unfortunately between his latest tour and Black Country Communion (his metal band with Jason Bonham, Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Derek Sherinian of Dream Theater) I think the days of finding him at clubs and small theaters are pretty much over.

kalikshama -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/24/2011 1:02:22 PM)

Roger's Waters The Wall last fall was a concert of a lifetime. Anyone see both the tour in the 70s and the current one and what did you think?

GreedyTop -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/24/2011 1:08:35 PM)

oh yes! Dream Theater!! AWESOME! I saw them  in Atlanta (Images and Words tour)

Fates Warning.. several times, usually in TX..

Brian May (of Queen) in ATL

(edited because suddenly I wasnt sure WHICH venue )

IrishMist -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/24/2011 3:59:20 PM)

The Best concert I have ever seen was Journey's Escape tour. We hitched into Chicago to go see that ( I was in 8th grade at the time ).

Other than that one, which also happened to be the first concert I ever went to...would have to be Foghat...also held in Chicago.
