I used to go to concerts back in the day.

My favs were Elvin Bishop and (Fleetwood Mac with Bob Welch on guitar). Charlie Daniels was a good one too.

lazarus1983 -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/13/2011 11:29:47 AM)

My favorite concerts are Queensryche in the Emerald Theater, Judas Priest at Soaring Eagle Casino, and Megadeth in the Orbit Room.

Queensryche had brought back Operation: Mindcrime and was doing the whole album, complete with Pamela Moore as Sister Mary.

The venue at Soaring Eagle was rather small, so even in the middle of the auditorium I was only about 100 feet from them.

And I had managed to fight my way to the barricade to see Megadeth in The Orbit Room.

Rob Halford, Queensryche, and Iron Maiden at the United Center in Chicago
Extreme, Cinderella, and David Lee Roth at the World Music Center Tinley Park Illinois
Van Halen reunion at Conseco Field house in Indianapolis
Count Basie and his orchestra at Evergreen Plaza in Chicago
Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden at Red Rocks in Colorado... (my favorite venue)
Huey Lewis and the News at WTTW studios in Chicago for the filming of their Four Chords special for PBS

Those were the stand out concerts of the many many shows I've seen... It paid to have a brother in the business while in my 20's.[;)]

That Sinatra, Martin, Davis line-up would be the shit, too, though!

Agreed. I would love to see that.

I've only been to two concerts - Grateful Dead (a long time ago, obvioulsy - I was just a kid - went with my brother) and Celtic Woman. Celtic Woman was wonderful.

I saw Tony Bennett, who was crazy freaking good.

Also saw Peggy Lee with Mel Torme, which was a lot of fun.

Grateful Dead Live at Boston Music Hall on 1976-06-11 (June 11, 1976)And then .....

Couldn't find the same version but was glad they played this (BETTER) night of your betrothal ... BTW Dismantling a whole section of seats to create a dance floor unbeknownst to security was a nice touch

The 83 Saratoga Performing Arts Ctr Show June something or other ... Best part was the human departure over the footbridge at the end of the show... the crowd went magically into a cattle sound and continued it till the very last person exited ... after that people at all these different concerts tried to recreate a moment like that and failed miserably.

And finally...
Robert F. Kennedy StadiumJune 20, 1992
When Jerry Broke His Probation
That and

I've seen about 100 other artists multiple times, but these were the shows for me.

willbeurdaddy -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/14/2011 5:36:29 PM)

It's impossible to pick out a single best, there are different aspects to different concerts and I don't think there was one that was best in all respects. Plus I was fortunate enough to be a total degenerate in the late 60s/70s when so much great music happened. (I cant think of a major band I never saw except the Rolling Stones.) In sort of order, the most memorable, Three of them among the best selling concert videos/albums. (and not counting festivals with multiple bands):

Jimi Hendrix & Band of Gypsys, New Years Eve 69/70
Pink Floyd- The Wall (1980)
Led Zeppelin-The Song Remains the Same
Roger Waters - The Wall (2010)
Pink Floyd- Animals
Pink Floyd-Carnegie Hall 1971
Humble Pie and J. Geils - Capitol Theater Passaic NJ grand opening
The Doors and Simon and Garfunkel - Forest Hills, NY
Allman Brothers - Live at the Fillmore

Worst of the major band's concerts: U2, Police, Van Halen

edit: and while no single concert of these bands rise to the level of the above list, bands Ive seen numerous times that combine into concert favorites, Blue Oyster Cult, Steely Dan, The Tubes). In fact, Steely Dan Irvine Meadows in 1998(?) probably should get moved to the top list.

Aileen1968 -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/14/2011 7:18:29 PM)

Allman Brothers at the Beacon more times than I can remember.
Rob Zombie was way better than I ever expected.
The Black Crowes at jersey Shore Bar.
Johnny Winter at a small Jersey dinner club.
Pink Floyd...Division Bell Tour.
Eagles...Hell Freezes Over Tour.
Papa Roach at another Small Jersey Bar venue.

edited to add....one person I never saw in concert, but would have loved to is Stevie Ray Vaughn.

farglebargle -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/14/2011 7:49:19 PM)

Rob Zombie made me hate that cunt, Sharon Osbourne.

sexyred1 -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/14/2011 7:53:46 PM)

I adore live concerts and have seen tons of them.

But bar none, in over 20 years, it will always be The Boss, Bruce Springsteen for me.

Back then, he played 4 hours, now he plays almost 3.

Nothing better than seeing him, especially in NJ.

Allmans became the Beacon's house band, so many of them I dont know if we were at the same ones, lol. I saw SRV in small clubs in Austin when he was first coming up, I wouldnt call them "concerts" per se, but was great. I saw him a couple of months before he died, just for a couple of songs at a Fabulous Thunderbirds show and he was so much better after kicking his drug problems.

I havent seen Rob Zombie yet, but definitely plan to.

Not my favorite, even the Born to Run tour, though he did a "Heartbreak Hotel" that kicked Elvis' ass, lol.

Best wishes to the Big Man for a speedy recovery.

SexyBossyBBW -> RE: Best Concerts You've Ever Seen (6/14/2011 8:56:40 PM)

I don't go to many concerts, since I like them small enough for me to see the artist.
I loved the opening acts as much as the headliner, in both concerts.

Regina Belle, opening for the late Rick James: it wasn't the Rick James, I'd always wish I'd seen, but I was happy to have seen him live.

Lenny Kravitz opening for Aerosmith. Amazing! Especially when someone in Lenny Kravitz's group, came and found my sister, and myself, and gave us their seats, close up to where my sister could touch her favorite man, Steven Tyler.

Julio Iglesias
, in RI twice, and in Fairfax, VA once. [:)]M
