"Ears" in German is "Ohren."

I kinda like that.  However, I'm in the "He'll tell you his name" camp.

Chewbacca/Chewie - because he will chew up your shoes, furniture, and as many bones and tennis balls as you can throw.  Or Ender, because he will be the end of the aforementioned shoes/furniture/bones/toys.

"Spike" has entered the running now, because that was sort of almost Max's name.

I keep looking at his face and his amazing eyes with so much realism in them.  The name that keeps popping in my head is Mick.

The other name that keeps popping in my head but not so strong is Maximilan for short you can call him max. Opps lol sorry the name of your partner lol i wasn't thinking of the OP's name.

However, i've always wanted a bulldog so i could name him Grunt lol like the dog in Flashdance.

WOnderful and SQUEEEEE !!!
i had a Siamese cat named Gizmo.

Perhaps the name "Skittles" ? No pressure, i just also thought it was a cute pet-name.
Best Wishes for you, Max, and the newest addition to your home.

My Siamese is named Gizmo. o_o

When he was but a wee furball he had the most peculiar habit of making all kinds of gremlin-ish noises. He still does, actually. ^_^

As for the new dog... I'm kinda leaning toward Dexter or the "wait until he's brought home" option. Or maybe Muttsworth III. For no real reason other than I've had a bit too much sugar tonight.

I have always thought it important to wait until they are home and then they might share their name with you.

Name him "Dammit". Before he grows our of his puppiness, you will call him that dozens of times anyway.

I know someone that did that (by mistake).  The dog kept getting up on the furniture & she'd get frustrated & say "Dammit, get down off the couch"!  Pretty soon he'd only answer to "Dammit"!

I spat coffee at this one! In the UK, "chopper" has an entirely different meaning

I go with the 'wait until he's home' crowd. I named my little boy dog before I got him home, and his name changed completely in the first few days. My little girl dog had a name all picked out until I met her, aged 5 weeks. I changed her name on the spot to one that suited her a lot better.

I'm sure your gorgeous little man will tell you soon enough what he wants to be called

He's definitely a Sancho Panchez..... or a Pancho for short

And Gizmo was my chinchilla back in the days, so that names calls a lot of memories....

A few years ago I took in an older cat that was going to be homeless due to a move his family was making.
Their young daughter had a severe allergy and they made the heart beaking choice to not take him with them.

He was 12 years old and already had a well established name that I had no intentions of changing... .
But an interesting thing happened: he seemed quite indifferent to it and once when I said to him that he was my angel he perked right up.
He actually came when I said Angel softly; something he never did when I used his given name: Diego.

And so this kitty told me his name... and he seems quite happy I got the hint.

Oh dear, what in the world does it mean in the UK?? LOL

I do agree with the letting them "tell" you. I've never let my dogs have the run-of-the-mill names, I've had Cosmo (the Wonder Dog) way before there was Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld; adopted a "Buddy", but he became "Bayley"; "Peanut" became "Penny"; and my black cat who was originally "Shadow" sat on the back of the couch and told me, "I'd like to be called "Miss Sophia", and so she has been! And every one of those names suits them perfectly, lol.

I never knew! Well, going by his pic, he looks like he will probably do that name justice!

You wouldn't be afraid of this one, seriously.  I have a toddler, so I had to be absolutely sure of bringing home a safe dog.  I poked his eyes, pulled his ears and tail, pushed him over, stuck my fingers in his mouth and grabbed his jaw, pushed him over on his back, and got up in his face and growled and showed my teeth.  All he did was drool all over me, kiss me, and beg for tummy rubs.  And this is an unaltered young male.  After he's fixed and settled in, he'll be the best dog ever.

I agree with letting him pick the name, but I'd like to narrow the choices down a little bit, at least.  I've gotten some great suggestions here!

One time I brought home a stray tortie point Siamese. I tried different names on her but she didn't respond to any of them. Several weeks into her being my housemate, I was sitting on the couch & looking at her sitting in the hallway to my left. After about 10 minutes, I said, "Lucy?" And she said, "It took you long enough" & came running over. Lucy wasn't a name that I'd ever thought of for an animal before or since.
