Very true. I blame TV.

I know a lot more about Canada than most Americans know about the United States.

As a Canadian, I can assure you he knows shockingly little about Canada.

There most definitely is a cult of personality in play, but to my eye it is a negative one. Less effort is spent by supporters trying to make their chosen idol look good, than is spent by opponents trying to make that idol look bad.

There is a lot more I could learn about Canadian history because I didn't take it in high school or university but I am very informed about current Canadian politics.

Well thank the goddess we have you here to tell us what's what.

Candidate Obama ran a very straight-forward, positive campaign.

I know you have TV up there...

Most of our elected politicians tend to be charismatic and I don't think many of our past presidents would be elected today, because they would not be considered charismatic enough.

Politicians these days have to be "packaged" to appeal to the masses.
Personality, packaging, and image seem to be more important than substance, character and ability.

I don't think we would elect a modern day Theodore Roosevelt or Abraham Lincoln in this day in age.

Think about it, have we ever had a President that looked like he carried around a pocket protector?

With so much at stake in the world, how sad is this mentality?

I do not see this changing anytime soon.....

Like I have said, the guy I usually vote for wouldn't win any beauty pageants.

I often wonder about your agenda when you post here. I wonder how you would feel if someone went on to a message board that was primarily directed at Canadians and made the comments on that message board you do to Americans here.

It might just well be that your obsession with American politics makes you more knowledgeable than many Americans, and you know, that isn't a bad thing... it is what it is. We have Anglophiles in this country that spend significant portions of their time researching the British monarchy. I bet these people would know at least as much as British citizens, and probably more than most. Americans don't care about politics by and large.

Now, again, I wonder why you need to put us down on the one hand, and learn as much as you can about what we do on the other hand. Usually interest in a topic shows that the person has some affection for it, but you come across as having a lot of antipathy towards Americans. I wonder why you post links all of the time, is it to change minds, or is it to piss people off? Because if it is just to piss people off, you aren't changing minds....

At least the time you spend following Canadian politics explains why you know nothing about US politics.
