Very nitpicky indeed. I spent Monday with a war vet.......at home......digging up sod and gravel with shovel and pick. We never once spoke of his 24 years of military service. We didn't fly a flag or go to any cemetery. We work on our American dream. Then, when we were finished digging, he went and washed his motorcycle, car and my car while I planted some flowers, showered, and made a pizza. We watched some television then went to bed. I doubt he felt dishonoured. He was whining about sore muscles. But he dug the new pizza creation. Neither of us are overly sentimental. We live life. The past is the past. The dead are not going to be any less dead if we go put plastic flowers over their dead, decaying bodies. We will not be any more or less American with or without a flag in our yard. We believe the voluntary sacrifices our families have made, and continue to make, are service and honour enough.
