FR

My family has served in the US military since before the Civil War, and fought on both sides during the war that gave us Memorial Day, we would spend the Sunday before tending the graves of ancestors and any veterans graves we saw that were untended. On Memorial Day we have always spent the day relaxing and enjoying the start of summer.

If you didn't spend at least part of the weekend decorating the graves of the fallen you really have no business criticing how anyone else spent the weekend.

Very nitpicky indeed.

I spent Monday with a war vet.......at home......digging up sod and gravel with shovel and pick. We never once spoke of his 24 years of military service. We didn't fly a flag or go to any cemetery. We work on our American dream. Then, when we were finished digging, he went and washed his motorcycle, car and my car while I planted some flowers, showered, and made a pizza. We watched some television then went to bed.

I doubt he felt dishonoured. He was whining about sore muscles. But he dug the new pizza creation.

Neither of us are overly sentimental. We live life. The past is the past. The dead are not going to be any less dead if we go put plastic flowers over their dead, decaying bodies. We will not be any more or less American with or without a flag in our yard.

We believe the voluntary sacrifices our families have made, and continue to make, are service and honour enough.

Hard as it may be to credit, there's those who think that such an exhibitionist (and, if you have the media paying attention to you, attention seeking) gesture is worth more than showing a degree of respect to those who have, and continue to, serve.
Pathetic, innit?

So you are saying the POTUS is an exhibitionist because he put a wreath on a grave? Or maybe you are taking a jab at all the ones who said they went to a cemetery and put something down? And do you honestly think the media would give a shit about someone putting a flag up on a grave? You really need to step away from the telly or where ever you get your ideas about the US. All that bullshit they are feeding you about the states is just that...bullshit.

I hate to say this, but any respect for the fallen on Memorial Day is going above and beyond.  Most Americans just golf, bbq, or whatever on Memorial Day.

Which is why I have no respect for most Americans.

At last!!!! A reason why Willbur's primary loyalty appears to be given to Israel, and not the USA, the country Willbur resides in.

And, if I may say so, not the most honourable of reasons either.
