My Sir found a hair color combination he likes. Black and blonde. He hasn't ordered me to dye my hair, but he thinks black with wide blonde streaks would look good. I want to please him, but I have a couple of concerns. One is my age. I'm almost 38 and one person told me only teenagers are doing this. The other, I don't want people to think of skunks when they look at me. Should I do it or am I too old?

It sounds kind of drastic to me. How about highlights? Or better yet, get a wig.

I like the look of the slashes of blonde near the face... but honestly? I would consult a professional who can do the right level of colour for your hair. It's fine to be 16 and going wild with peroxide and Manic Panic, less so when your hair is of a certain age, and so are you!

Can you photoshop a picture of yourself to see what this will look like? And I thought there were some beauty websites where you can upload a photo and change your hair color. This way you can play with blonde highlights and see what color blonde will look best. Plus he can come with you to the stylist and listen to an expert's opinion.

You know, we're in the same age corner and I don't think I'm old, so you're definitely not but seriously, black with wide blonde streaks is a bit icky, I mean skunk would possibly the more flattering comparison. The only females I have seen sporting this look (and it looked fairly disastrous on all of them) were also the ones who sported very little clothes but said clothes were covered in sequins and in general they looked like cheap tarts. Might be a cultural thing but on this side of the pond it's not a good look...

Black with blond stripes isn't nearly as skunky as black with white stripes. Unfortunately I'm not dying them white, they're going there on their own. OT, for anyone unclear as to when to use there, their and they're see the above sentence for an example.

Go for it. Its hair color, and can be dyed back. You may like the effect, or he may hate it. Does it matter what other people think?

eehh..for one it's now passe. It's no longer trendy. It was a fad for awhile but the time has passed and two, imo unless you look extremely young at 38 and you like the idea of being compared to a goth teenager then go for it but personally I think 38 is too old to look like that but then again I'm pretty conservative. And yeah when I was younger we called hair like that "skunk hair".

Again, does it matter if it pleases him? My hair is waist length. How i would LOVE to cute it all off. The man would have a fit. I just turned 46 and I get told all the time about how Im too old to have hair this long. I keep it dyed a dark red. I often tell people that I dont care if they believe im too old, I do not dress to impress them.

I don't think age has anything to do with it; I think you need a hair color and a style that flatters your looks. I don't know what color hair, style, type of hair the OP has so it is hard to make a comment. She could look like a young 38 or an old 38; genes and how you take of yourself make the difference. Like I said earlier, whenever looking to make a drastic change in hair, try a wig first; so easy. And yes, you can experiment and it may not matter to anyone else, unless you have a job where having that type of hair color would be detrimental.

Now thats a great idea. Take him out to a wig shop. He may decide to buy the wig instead, and he can have a different girl when he wants one. [:D]

Jet black hair really isn't flattering on anybody who wasn't born with it. IMO, of course [8\|] Even worse with blonde stripes. Now, a warm medium to dark brown with blonde layered over, could be really pretty.

True about the black. My mom's hair is raven black, but that colour on me? Pure Morticia. Wigs are fun! So are those clip in falls they have at the beauty supply, or dollar store.

I tried blonde once, at the begging of my then 9 year old son who wanted me to have the same hair color as him. Talk about a disaster! After 9 blisters on my scalp (obviously a hair dresser who was more into her "baby's daddy" than her job) and two corrections with another hair dressed, I got the blonde tresses! My son took one look and said... Nope... you are a red head.

my daughter looks pure Asian with blue-black hair. I think it looks adoreable on her but she has the body and complexion to pull it off....alabaster skin, teeny tiny petite body and almond shaped eyes. But yeah most people I've seen who have black hair, unless you were born with it, it just usually looks...mmm...dry and unhealthy to me.
