Well Im glad the rest of you are above this. To me, I went, Wow! I didn't know this! I'm definitely going to try this. I so totally have a pair of shoes that keeps coming untied. How annoying Oh then you might really like this little trick. Do you like sperry topsiders? Well if you do, buy a pair a little larger than your foot and put em on and as you do, pull the factory tied rawhide laces nice and tight (they are already tied in the proscribed manner). Then walk into a body of water (preferably saltwater) and stand in just deep enough to fully submerge the shoe for about a minute, maybe two. Then get out of the water take the shoes off and dry them in the sun (rinsing them off first if it was saltwater. When they dry, that knot will sty tight and perfect for a long long time. I learned this in the Newport to Bermuda race and it probably has saved my life more than a few times. see if your shoes allow sideways or twisting movement on the deck of a healing saiboat, you can come out of them and easily go overboard. Which completely sucks.
