The question I need to ask, as a Switch, is... "dominant and submissive"... or "enjoys giving, and receiving pain"... the two are nothing alike.

a switch can be both dominant and submissive. Or they can be a dominant and a bottom, or a top and a submissive...

For the most part... its someone who likes both.

I agree completely.
However, my point was, switching between taking, or giving up control, or simply loves both ends of the pain exchange. This is why I said the two are nothing alike.
I know Doms that are masochists at the same time, as well as sadists that are subs

I dont think its strange in the slightest, but then again people think i may be a little strange. I am indeed available for both and do enjoy getting "all " my needs met, while am perfectly capable of giving something worthwhile back. I just consider myself particularly versatile.

Yes.
Quite right.
It's strange...

... when you're strange,
faces come out of the rain,
when you're strange
no-one remembers your name,
when you're strange
when you're strange
when you're strannnge.

Good....one

I don`t think so...but its only my opinions, many may disagree...

Some would say ohhh THATS a switch <g> Others a bedroom sub OR...bottom.

I like to bottom at times...but I came from both sides of the kneel...

Why sit on the sidelines!

Dude...your all ok, nothing *wrong* with you...just enjoy the dance!

I think that the personality one has in one's everyday life may or may not give any clue as to the role sub, Dominnat or switch that might be used during consenting bdsm play.

Some of are reasonably dominant in everyday life and bdsm but others seem to be dominant in one area and sub in the other.

I don't think it strange that it should be that way, just glad that we are all able one way or another to enjoy bdsm regardless of our everyday persona.

In fact I have a very clear idea of the BDSM related things I want to do, in an ideal world I would like to come up with the scenarios myself and hand over control of them to a dominant person who could force me to go through with it all.

I'm not sure if you realize it, but you just described what pro Dommes do.

There are some who dislike pro Dommes, but I believe that they are very needed in the BDSM world.  A lifestyle Domme would likely be uninterested in catering to your fantasies as you described above.  But it probably wouldn't be very hard to find a pro Domme who will make your fantasies come true.

The way I interpreted your comment, it sounds like you've fantasized about certain activities, but haven't experienced them in real life.  If that's the case, I'd suggest that you find a pro Domme in your area.  Fulfilling your fantasies is easier than you seem to think.

Git r done!

is it strange that a person can have an extremely dominant personality but enjoys being submissive during playtime? i am interested in your opinions

I agree, it's not strange at all. Most of us human are very dual natured. That someone is dominant at work, for instance, but sub in their personal relationships, does not in my mind make them a switch. A switch is someone who can be both dominant and submissive in their personal relationships (not necessarily with the same person).

JMO, YMMV

Nope, not strange at all.  In fact, the powerful executive who fantasizes about being dominated by his secretary is so common that it's almost cliche.

Having a dominant personality and being submissive are not mutually exclusive.  Perhaps you are mistakenly thinking that in order to submit, you have to be weak.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.

It's called "power exchange" for a reason.  The more power you have, the more you have to exchange.  Would it be much of an accomplishment for a Dom/Domme to dominate someone who was a already a doormat?  Many Doms/Dommes feel a greater sense of accomplishment when they dominate people with strong personalities or high-powered positions in their professional lives.

There are lots of groups dedicated to this topic over on FetLife.  I also remember a group called "Strong-willed submissives" over on Alt.com.  So if you have a dominant personality, yet still desire to submit, you're not alone.

Hmmm, people are contradictory. What's strange about that?
