A question for the denizens of Collarme. In most of our varied lifestyle choices we are required to do some level of risk/reward assessment. How dangerous is this,is the rush worth the possible adverse ramifications...and so on and so forth.....we accept this, hell we crave it.
Now to my point....I had an early morning flight out of RDU on JetBlue,I did my part.I was at the airport in plenty of time...pulled up to the curb and right away saw a disturbing sight....though it was only 6 am this small town(I'm from New York, everywhere else is small town)airport had an ungodly line at check-in....WTF,they canceled the flight ...made up some story about mechanical difficulties.Mentioned  there was an issue with faulty landing gear apparatus....and they expect me to buy that bullshit.
Screw that, wind up the rubber band and let's get this show on the road....if I wake up at 4:30 in the am,get to the airport prepared to do My O.J. Simpson impersonation(the one where he runs thru an airport, not the slicing off heads thing)they better damm well have a plane fueled and ready for takeoff.
Nothing in life is guaranteed.....how do they absolutely, positively know the wheels won't come down till they try.Besides don't they have a redundancy system....something wherer they just hand crank the fucking things down....as it is I have had to go back home....I will need to go back to sleep...and than back to the airport for a 3 pm flight.
Those pricks just cost me a full day in New York.....what the hell, who do I sue ?

Mike,   quite candidly-  the way flying is a hastle- when I go to Chicago=  640 miles- it is easier to drive....a wash.   But I have a "free" car if I drive....

Couldn't you take a late night Amtrak to get you in by the morning?

A travel delay in a hassle, for sure. No landing gear is a nightmare. Been there, done that.

We were circling around Seattle, coming in from Indy, and running out of gas, and the landing gear did not come down. You could see them racing the firetrucks and foam trucks to the runway, teams of people in silver fireproof suits racing after them.  We were all in the brace position when the landing gear came down and we had a safe landing. Then we had to get on another plane as Seattle was just a stop over on our way to Alaska.

I'd rather have a travel delay then wind up a crispy critter.

Be glad that they prefer to be better safe than sorry, or would you like to be within a plane flying to wherever and then experiencing that their wheels won't come down when the plane you are sitting in is trying to land?

Quite frankly I experienced way smaller issues causing hassles than what you are talking about and quite frankly its part of life.

I'm disabled....the day doesn't matter,I never have to work.
Now pop quiz...how many in the congregation realized my bitching about not taking off in a less than perfect airplane(no langing gear....come on folks)was tongue in cheek sarcasm all the way....
Did I really need the emoticons?

Now that is more along the lines of what my intentions for this thread were to begin with....funny ,irreverent, quick hitting shots at the absurdity of entering an aluminum tube and entrusting your life to it's ability to stay aloft.

Not to mention a few thousand gallons of explosive liquid in thin skinned tanks.

Surely you jest!

If the plane's landing gear doesn't come down, the shit will hit the fan!!
