I'm starting to see more and more warnings like the one below on profiles (not just on this website.) A few questions.... 1 - Is this something that people are just starting to think is a good idea or has something been going on prompting this? 2 - Most of them say legal ramifications, but I'm curious as to what legal ramifications. Most of these profiles have been put into the public domain where there is no reasonable expectation to privacy for the information posted. Digging beyond stuff put in the public domain would be different. WARNING: Any institutions or individuals using this site or any of its associated sites for studies or projects - You do NOT have my permission to use any of my profile or pictures in any form or forum both current and future. If you have or do, it will be considered a serious violation of my privacy and will be subject to legal ramifications.

yeah, my ex uses it all over the place, and so do his vict.. erm, wait, I dont know what to call them... From what I have understood, it means nothing.

I know many post it to keep those who photo snipe and re-post "cool photos" to Think Twice... Depending on who it is, they might have legal rights, they might not. Those who post it who are local do so because of the recent outings in the city of brotherly jealousy..... where they took photos from their Fet and CM profile and threatened to mail it to their job.....

I agree, it is silly, especially since I have yet to see anyone Cite an actual legal precedent from ANYWHERE that supports an international ruling on it. edited for a malfunction in my typing fingers

1: It's from an urban legend that Sydney University is doing a sexuality study using adult profiles. 2: It's a load of hot air. There is no legal expectation for privacy. If their information was used in some study, any proper study would have information anonymized to the point they would never know. Besides, you would have to actually pay a lawyer to enforce it. Fat chance on that happening. The warning is frequently longer than the profile it is protecting. Instead, I treat it as an "I'm clueless" warning and simply ignore those profiles.

Reminds me a research project the Univ. of Tennessee did a few years back. They wanted to determine why the head of the penis is larger than the shaft. U.T. spent $30,000 and 6 weeks determining it was for the man's pleasure. Univ. of California (being the experts on sex), couldn't let this go uncontested so they conducted their own research project. They spent $60,000 and 12 weeks determining it was for the woman's pleasure. Univ. of Alabama (not wanting to miss out on any of the action) spent $19.95 and weekend. They determined it was so the hand would fly off and hit the guy in the face.

It's posted usually by people who can't be arsed to read the TOS and who think that they're so important that someone is actually going to want to study them academically. Thing is, whatever you post on this site becomes part of this site and you have no 'legal ramifications' to speak of. The only people who have the legal ramifications are the site owners. Thing is, nobody is that important. Nobody is out there trying to get you. That is, not unless someone's ex decides that you've offended them in some way.

You're writing about someone outing you after there's been some interaction and contact between you and them. That wasn't what I was referring to, and is something completely different. I was talking about people using your personal information on your profile without having any contact with you. Yes you get random verbal attacks, abusive messages, unsolicited spam and cut and paste, but this isn't quite the same as a concerted effort to 'out' someone in greater society, wouldn't you agree?

"Nobody is out there trying to get you." LOL, that is not true of me, but I understand. Every word we all type into this forum is available to the public at large, and that includes profiles. If you want to keep to yourself and have noone know you, feel free not to find this site and become a member. It's easier than falling off a log, really. Oh, and those who want to find me ? Fukum. There are pictures of pornstars available on the net. The idea of someone stealing a pic of me rather than a pornstar is ridiculous. If you're gonna steal a car, don't steal a Yugo. 2. Many of the people stealing profiles intend to use them to scam suckers. If they're already planning to commit a crime, a civil lawsuit about image theft is too silly to be a deterrent. Especially overseas prosecution originated from a country they will never visit.

Hey, what's wrong with Yugos ? But on subject here. You type they read. Period. You want privacy go dig a hole. Fukit, for better or worse we are here. Some years ago I realized that I had given enough info on this forum for people to come and find me easily. Hell I could do it. You know what occurred to me ? I could meet a motherfucker on the street and the same shit could happen. So why is this any different ? Gimme about a year and I'll know almost everyone on this forum better than they know themselves, well maybe. Depends on how loquacious they are. It's not hard to figure out. Fuck institutions. They are just a fancy word for jail. I have been in jail, fuck institutions. MY institution is what matters. My neighborhood. My neighbors used to hate me in the beginning, but in time they learned and now they want me here. That is an institution. If the little old Lady cross the street saw the cops fucking with me she would drive her pickup truck right into the cruiser. (they are called cruisers for those uninformed) She reminds me of my Mother, and actually they get along pretty well. An institution is not made of bricks and glass. That is how they fool people. T^T

I've actuallys een some profiles on Fet where that idiotic "warning" is the only thing in the entire profile. What in god's name anyone who posts this on their profile thinks they are actually accomplishing is completely beyond me. Don't these people take a moment and ask themselves, "wait a minute - what good is this going to do"?

Clueless people thinking their lives are fascinating to anyone. OTOH... 2 yrs ago I recall that there was someone mocking profiles here on CM, putting them up on Youtube, or one of those other sites.
