When someone sends you a message introducing themselves, how long is the message before you start to get board?

I have tried several formats, from a few sentences to several paragraphs.  I don't send enough messages to have an accurate tally, what is the general consensus here?

It depends on the content for me.
Quality over quantity.

As an example, there was one message I received that said only "Poise will be poise".
And then there was one that introduced himself as someone who also loved photography,
and therefore we should meet and get to know each other.

I liked the short note best.

Personally I like them short and sweet.
Not a one liner though, but that's just me.

*makes mental note to validate the quality of his messages*

Thank you again for your insight poise.  I generally try and keep my opening message pertinent to the interests of the receiver.

Butterfly,

One liners are less than thrilling especially when they do not even qualify as a complete sentence.

My general advice to folks crafting an introductory email is to send something that is three or four sentences long.  One of those sentences should be a question to spark a conversation.

There's a very good link in the Mistress FAQ thread about writing introductory emails.  You might be interested in it even if your target demographic is not Dominant women.

Personally I think the depth of the message should be = to the depth of the profile. But I tend to fish with a very long pole.

YMMV

Kana's recipe

No one liners. A few paragraphs, usually on something that caught my eye in her profile (Which also indicates that I read it). Show a sense of humor, don't talk much about me-too many uber-doms running around.

I think an intro message should be long enough to give the reader an impression of the sender and also show that the sender cared enough to read their profile. If it's a very long intro email it seems cut and paste and that is a major turn off to me. I"m leaning more towards a couple of sentences. After all, if the person is intrigued they can read your profile.

I'd also like to say that many people forget to throw in a question or something the reader can respond to. Having someone write you and say....Nice profile....well, that's ok but it gives the reader no reason at all to repond. How about...Nice profile, I enjoy reading too. Who is your favorite author?

Here's a great thread which has a section in it for intro emails, you might enjoy reading it- I found much of the advice given to be spot on.   http://www.collarchat.com/m_1717756/mpage_1/key_/tm.htm#1717756

The length, or lack thereof, has nothing at all to do with how boring it will be.

So, size does matter?

I'm with LaT here. Send a message that's cheerful and thoughtful, and references something in the person's profile or posts. The length should reflect how long it takes you to express your ideas and nothing else.

Come over and we can delve into the depths of that debate.

I don't respond to any that:
call me Mistress/Ma'am straight off
I have responded to mail from interesting people who have anything of interest to say between one line and around ten lines
I am responding to only one person's mail at the moment.
Americans tend to be more minimalistic so his one liners proably would run to a paragraph from an English guy

It depends on how boring they are, really.

The "board" was what caught my attention... I realize that spelling isn't that important but it does illustrate an attention to detail. Not just a typo... I do remember when I was here originally, there was one person that stated they would type their responses in "Word" originally, use spellchecker and then cut-and-paste.

I realize that this has nothing to do with your original question but you are judged by initial impressions and on the internet part of that impression are the words which you use.

That and monkeys playing cellos but that is for another post...

Playing with words can be quite a stimulating fetish...now did you mean a sexual fetish or a "fetish"?

Wow, that is a rather glaring communication faux pas I completely missed.  What is worse is that when rulemylife called me on it I mistook his directed sarcasm as general sarcasm even though he added the typo in parenthesis.  Thank you both and I now understand why you would be bored with this thread.
