I’ve never been a fan of growing energy. As a world we are having a hard enough time growing food let alone energy. The nutrients in our fertile ground or not infinite neither is our aquifer. We are already running out of water.

I’m all for alternate fuel sources but not for trading one problem for another.

There is a difference between our societies... WE are controlled by big business and lobbying in congress… But… we see it… understand it… and fight it as a people. This battle keeps progress slow but also keeps us diversified with a steady over time growth.

The Chinese CONTROL big business and this allows them to change directions quickly but they also run a greater risk of financial and social disaster.

I think…lol

A terrible waste of good whiskey. On the other hand, that's a power source the middle east won't touch with a bargepole...

Thanks you for the link.

BPs total investment in green technology far excedes the donations I mentioned. It runs into billions, invested in bios, wind, hydrogen and solar forms of energy.

I still consider that 500 Mil over 10 years to basically be advertising.

That and they probably also benefit from green energy r&d tax credits, I'd guess.  They may well also be positioning themselves for a future change in energy technology and/or acquiring as many patents as they can in order to control the introduction of new technology.

Historic Note:

Late in WWII, the Germans were looking for an alternative to diesel in the UBoats. They actually developed an engine that ran on Hydrogen Peroxide.

This probably explains the high number of blond U-Boat officers.

Didnt you read my post......BP have spent many billions on this. With that money you could have Beyonce doing the advertising.

OK, I thought I would be subtle. BP is paying LIP SERVICE to alternate energy.

Shakes head...... $8 billion is now lip service.

I suppose you have completely stopped using oil in protest ?...No, I thought not.

REALLY interesting article. Good luck and God bless them. There's no way to invest in them?
I'm convinced we're on the edge of technologies that will revolutionize not life on earth, but life in the galaxy, and change/challenge the very definition of "human" (would a robot whose "brain" was a human brain downloaded to a special processor qualify?).
Are you familiar with "The Singularity"? Ray Kurzweil? Things really are going to change......

Moonhead -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 7:23:59 AM)

Oh, you're an Extropian!
No wonder you're nuttier than museli...

One of my most earnest prayers is to live long enough to see Middle Eastern potentates calling the United States, offering deals on #1 Light Sweet Extra White Sand to deal with any beach erosion we might be experiencing.
Fuck them and the camel they rode in on.

Louve00 -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:01:51 AM)

HUSH! Trucknslave.  The way the east coast is diminishing in Fla, that *could be* a possibility in a distant future (but hopefully/probably not)

Moonhead -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:04:09 AM)

Doesn't most of America want Florida washed out to sea, though?

truckinslave -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:08:09 AM)

No. Only Floridians
who use icons containing lips and cherries [:D]

Moonhead -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:10:09 AM)

So, did you become an Extropian before or after reading all of Jerry Pournelle?

Louve00 -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:10:25 AM)

Ok, ya'll better hush cuz if Fla washes out to sea I'm taking my liberal opinions up north!!  [8D]

truckinslave -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:12:21 AM)

As long as you don't call me a thespian.

Note: this is an homage to a bit previously done every couple years or so by Ludlow Porch, who recently died. Both of my daughters answered to "Funseeker" until they were in their teens.

truckinslave -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:15:05 AM)

Pournelle, Niven, Clarke, Asimov, Saberhagen....

But Asimovs Time Enough For Love probably bears more responsibility for any Extropian tendencies than any other single book. Who doesn't want a talking mule?

truckinslave -> RE: Solution to mid-east oil dependence? (3/2/2011 8:17:05 AM)

Those beautiful beaches will last for centuries, and haven't you noticed the drop in hurricane activity?
I understand real estate prices are expected to rebound sharply and soon, also.....
