................I don't mean to interfere with your argument with DYB, but honestly, this bullshit of yours is getting old.

Thread after thread you bring up military service as some type of icon of virtue.

A lot of people have served, and surprisingly not all agree that it was worth the effort.

Minor Hijack........

I forget rule, have you served in the military? (And yes, I have).

And now back to talk about the shrinking middle class...........

What the fuck are talking about. The Mine part is the ones serving the country? Not so. They are giving to their country. The MINES are the takers the Bushs, Cheneys and their ilk of this world. Those that never served their country in any capacity outside of making money for themselves and their friends.

Default to the war? What it doesn't exist? Our countrymen aren't dying there still? Or is it all just a bit out of what you want to believe and you'd rather ignore it.  I get it. It doesn't fall into your ideal of what this country is so you'd just as soon ignore it just like the people along the side of the road as you speed by.

Facts? Where did you offer any facts......

I seem to have confused you.  I'll back up a bit so you can catch up.

You're confusing the issue of war with the original of the thread.  That being the loss of the middle class.  You were doing pretty good at that on the first page.  Where this crosses into the war issue for you, I haven't exactly figured out.

Now, when I used the expression 'Me and Mine' earlier, I was literally referring to Myself and those closest to Me.  That includes the members of the family who literally are military.  See, "Mine" really are serving their country.  I'm willing to bet that I've sat at more military funerals than you have.

Do I care more about those close to Me than the folks that I 'drive by'?  You bet I do!  Please feel free to think it's screwed up all you like.  You can add it to all of the other things that don't make you happy because the world isn't bowing down and doing what you want.

If you are going to stand with your head in the sand and say that one doesn't have to do with the other fine. But please, your head is definitely in the sand. Come out and take a view......it isn't as you think.

Hey, I honor the service people give. Whether in the military or any other way. But, frankly, I didn't ask them to go there for me. They aren't there for me at all. Not one thing that they have done was for me. I'd much rather have them here safe and sound doing good works. But, see if you can stay with me here.....I know you can do it.......The people that put them there...in harms way, think, exactly like you do. Get it? I don't want them harmed doing something that some selfish fucks are making them do....

But yeah, your fucked up. But, you won't hear it. Go on .....its all good. Just turn the volume up and keep driving

Well, we'll have to be different on some things.  If you really feel that the war is the major contributor to the erosion of the middle class we'll just have to call it a difference of opinion.  At least we can agree that we'd rather have folks at home.  We might have different philosophies on that as well.  I'm thinking yours stems a bit more from the financial expenditures related where I'm just more concerned with families being reunited, but it's close enough for Me.

The better question is, if the war magically ended, would the middle class be strengthened?  Would we really put the money that would have been spent to the current effort into programs to specifically help the middle class?  Impossible to say.

mnottertail -> RE: It's The Inequality, Stupid (2/25/2011 9:05:20 AM)

No it isn't.  We would not, we would not use that money to build infrastructure, we would not use that money for the betterment of our society, we would throw that money at corporations who would dutifully absorb it, but would not find ways to put us to work.

No, actually I haven't.

But I've spent the better part of my life with my Dad in Veteran's Hospitals, so I think I have some standing to speak on the subject.

There could be a miracle.  [8D]

Joking aside, I happen to agree with you.  It's not like we'd really be creating a surplus so that we'd have money to put to different uses.  We're still in the hole not matter what we spend on.

That wasn't what interested Me about this thread though.  It was more the human nature aspect of it than anything else.

Surplus....

Since we wouldn't need it for defense, we wouldn't have to pay for it via taxes, ergo no surplus.

You don't have to be a veteran to have an opinion on it one way or another.

Bleeding the lesser "rich" dry will get the Feds money. They will then use it to pay their foreign buddies off, feed the Military Industrial Complex, pay for pork projects, pay for Obama's vacations, the bloated Federal Government will get more bloated, and politicians continue with their orgy of wasteful spending. The Feds but will not create lasting jobs throughout the USA.
No disagreement with the post, except the gratuitous Obama vacations thrown in...   Apparently, the man doesn't seem to understand, he ain't allowed to behave like a president, and take time off, like all of his predecessors.

Obama will browbeat anyone still listening about how they have a responsibilty to fix problems they are being taxed to fix.
I only wish this was true, and you weren't just making it up.    M

That greed has also destroyed the manufacturing base in this country.  It's not limited to the board room and CEO's.  Greed on the part of the auto unions helped drive that industry into the ground.

Their rigid work rules were no help, but they weren't the folks who designed such crappy products, or the production lines requiring 2 years to switch to the newest model.

You can have a nice tidy business going, employing a lot of people, with good cash reserves and profit...but be bankrupted by a hedge fund.  They see your company and go "Sweet!", execute a hostile takeover, shred the company to where it can barely operate, add on tons of debt, and then take a huge pot of gold in their transaction fee.

A company can enter bankruptcy and *poof* no more pensions.  So you got your 30 years in and are left with SS (if you're lucky).  Orrrr....the company throws their indebtedness onto the fed's pension insurance. Meanwhile they come out of bankruptcy with no pension obligations.

An organization declares pension liabilities as ebil ebil ebil, without saying that the reason their fund is so sickly is that it was mismanaged by the administrator and/or bad advice from Wall St.

Our profit-driven medical system puts an American company at a disadvantage wrt Japan, Canada, etc. so the jobs leave.

Companies come to towns desperate for jobs, play state on state hunting for the best tax breaks, and load the ensuing school, utilities, and traffic problems on the community.  When the tax credits expire, the companies haul up stakes and do it all over again.

This constant scraping for maximum profit, no matter the cost to community and employees, is not doing us any favors.

Thanks for the link. I found this particularly revealing:

"[T]hose tax-the-rich years after 1945 experienced far lower unemployment and far faster economic growth than we have had for years."
