If the MB gains a dominant role in Egyptian government the concept that Iran will "crack" without military intervention is absurd. If WW III is indeed destined to be over the Middle East, an Egypt-Iran axis is ground zero, and it will be in my lifetime.

You're biggest mistake was listening to NPR..Don't clog your mind with gobble ti gook..

Absolutely!

You need only listen to Rush to find the truth.

I just sprayed iced tea all over the monitor. You're not supposed to make jokes in here.

Do You Wonder about the Possibility of the situation in Egypt being the start of world wide conflict?

If such a thing should happen, Hlen, and any historians should crawl from the rubble, they'd probably give the credit to Tunisia for getting the ball rolling. Is there a "worst case" outcome to consider? Certainly, but it's more likely to take a while developing, than to be set off in an instant.

I think another world wide conflict is inevitable, and China is growing a fat crop of young men they are going to need to get rid of somehow. Since the middle east is abundantly stocked with both a vital commodity, and crazy people, it does seem like an obvious flashpoint. The prophecies all sort of converge there, if you put that sort of thing into the equations.

I've had those moments, here and there, over the years. It's kinda spooky for a second, and then the emergency signal on the radio is just an Amber Alert.

And yet studies repeatedly demonstrate that people who get their news from NPR and PBS are better informed than people who get their news from any other major news source. Whereas people who get their news from Fox, for example, are the most ignorant, uninformed, and just plain misinformed people in the country.

So who is it, again, who clogs their minds with gobbledygook?

Thanks, Panda!!

I think you answered the question I asked most closely. Thanks!!

Yeah, NPRs studies, lol.

Thus proving my point.

Thank you. You may go now.

Thank you, you may now post those "repeated" studies and see if you can find an unbiased study that shows a statistically significant difference between NPR and FNC.

Piece of cake.

2003

They asked relatively simple questions - such as "is there clear evidence that Saddam Hussein was working closely with al Qaeda" or "was Saddam personally involved in planning the 9/11 attacks" - and kept track of who knew the correct answers and who did not. 80% of the respondents whose primary news source is Fox got at least 1 question wrong, as opposed to only 23% of those who get their news from NPR/PBS.

2007

Same basic principle - ask the respondents simple question, and see who knows what's going on in the world around them and who's a fucking moron. 54% of  the viewers of the Daily Show and Steven Colbert, and 51% of those who get their news from PBS/NPR, fell into the "highly knowledgeable" category, as opposed to 34% of those who get their news from Fox. The only people in the country more stupid and more willfully ignorant than Fox viewers were people get their news from the network morning news shows.

2008

And again, pretty much the same drill. Ask them 3 simple questions like "who holds the majority in Congress" and "who is the secretary of state," and see who knows what they're talking about. 44% of those who get their news from NPR got all 3 questions right, as opposed to 19% of those who watch Fox.

So yeah, people who watch PBS and listen to NPR have been repeatedly shown to be far more likely to know what's happening in their world than people who watch Fox.

Now it's your turn to weasel out of the argument by claiming that the studies are not valid because some of the pollsters belong to the Sierra Club, or some such bullshit. Come on, let us have it. We can all use a laugh.

That's still a pretty sad statistic for the NPR crowd!!

Does it say how that demographic leans politically?

They quote a lot of conservative/libertarian think tanks, and FAIR beats them up for relying on too many mainstream media sources.

The drooling cat is a Beck fan too.

It was one of the 19% of Fox viewers who got all three questions right.

I am unsure if this will spread further hlen. When the Soviet Union collaped the whole region collapsed, due to the knock on effect. The regime in Iran is starting to crack and eventually it will fall. It is my opinion any regime in power for a long time needs to modernise eventually to stave off revolution. Syria and Saudi Arabia could follow suit eventually.

I don't think Iran will be losing any power anytime soon. They are poised to gobble up Iraq as soon as we vacate. They have the most influence of any muslim country. Mostly due to their David to our goliath stance. Only they don't have their slingshot. But they are actively working to get it. And when they do it will pretty much be hands off at that point. I think most middle east countries want somebody to keep nukes out of Iran's hands but I don't think anyone will have the balls to do anything about it. They will likely talk about doing something until they have one. And then talk about it some more afterward. That whole region isn't likely to be stable for some time.
