What good is a stove?   I need power and heat.

The stove fires a boiler that provides heat. You have that instead of a gas boiler and just pay to fuel that (mostly solid fuel, though you can get oil burning models), and it boils water for your radiators and water.
It doesn't do electricity, which is why I suggested a generator might be handy as well.

Alternatively, you can stay on the grid, and pay a power and gas company who are probably a front for Goldman-Sachs every time you receive a bill. Of course, you wouldn't be able to whine every time a bill arrived if you cut that umbillical, would you?

I would like to see it in person. I live in town- we almost never lose power or heat.   If I lived in the county- I would want a generator.      If there is a better way- then by all means.     Sure.   Why not?

Yeah, I think that it must be devastating for the trauma unit in the Parkland Memorial Hospital to be unable to post on collarme as they casually survey the brain dead on the ward there.
