Now we are getting somewhere.

Who has been in the WH for decades?

GS/JPM.   meet your new boss.

You are not getting any closer to the bleeding obvious than you ever did.

Here's a hint, if GS/JPM would have found investing in power plants more profitable than housing bubbles or derivatives or any other methods of skinning your wallet, they would have.

This is decidedly not their work.  Power plants are not sexy when they can skin you with silver and gold bubbles and rot like that, since most people are hogs and get slaughtered because they hold and hold and hold.

Another one of pahunk's bullshit threads.

There's people there working by day and by night
And they don't sow potatoes nor barley nor wheat
But there's gangs of them digging for gold in the street...

Funny thing about prison planet, it never tells the truth.

IF pahunk would have done a little research, he would have discovered the rolling blackouts had NOTHING to do with no new power plants being approved (there is a coal fired power plant under construction just west of here,) but the fact that the cold caused dozens of generators to go offline.

quote:

HOUSTON (Reuters) – Texas imposed statewide rolling blackouts for only the second time in over two decades on Wednesday after frigid weather shut down dozens of generators, and warned that it may be forced to do the same on Thursday. source

A little more research would have given him the information that this is the second time in ten years this has happened, the first time was in 2006 when an abnormally high heat wave hit in April of that year. (who was president in 2006?)

Finally, lets talk about the Obama Administration NOT approving power plants.

For the record, President Obama announced loan guarantees for two new reactors at Georgia Power's Vogtle NPP in February 2010.

The biggest problem with new nuclear power plants is not the Federal Government or the Obama administration as pahunk's source claims, but the lack of financing. Nobody wants to invest in power plants, leaving the government to insure the loans or actually make the loans to build the plants, which would of course increase the deficit.

The simple truth is that pahunk is either too intellectually challenged to actually find out the truth dealing with the stuff he posts, or he just doesn't care and is trying to fuel conspiracy theory rumors to give him some sense of importance.

The are building a brand new 875 MW power plant less than 25 miles from where I live.  Its natural gas powered, as are most new power plants that are being built today, much to the chagrin of the coal lobby.  The  change is being driven by the fact that the US is sitting on top of 2 Saudi Arabia's worth of natural gas.

Environmental issues is the reason that we are closing our power plant here (emissions).   It is also the stumbling block that keeps both the wind and the solar plants proposed for here at a standstill (water needed for cooling)

The largest producer of solar panels is China.  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=121512377  China is now the world's biggest producer of photovoltaic solar panels, making about 40 percent of all panels, according to the China Daily, mostly for export.

EPA also has issues with using methane from POTW's even tho it gives back to the community and still needs to get rid of the methane produced by us humans.

Anybodywho thinks a power plant approved for construction since 1/20/2009 would be online already is a fool.

I was just going to point that out but you beat me to it. Any "new" power plant that isn't online now is because of Dubya.

jlf1961 -> RE: Obama’s Blocking Of New Power Plants Triggers Nationwide Blackouts The rolling blackouts now bein (2/3/2011 5:29:07 PM)

There is a nuke plant under construction now that was begun in 1973 and will be completed in 2012.

And of course all those houses in Texas are built to the same state regs as houses in the northeast where dealing with this type of cold is more common.... lol

Something tells me 'live free or die' state government has just as much to do with the blackout problem there.

Im really fascinated by state governments that really loosen the leash on its citizens, allowing them to chart their own course, and then complain when the lack of basic construction standards magnifies the problem. Apparently, they think its up to somebody else to supply them with an unlimited supply of dirty energy, rather than mandate conservation and energy saving construction practices on the state level.

Its fine they have a different vision down there in Texas, but this is the big downer that goes along with their vision, so please, hold the complaints.

So what are you suggesting?

We need to increase housing and construction costs for millions because of freak/unusual weather? Housing needs to be prepared for anything?

Do I need to start digging under my basement/house foundation to create a bomb shelter in case of nuclear attack?

Those houses were built for "normal weather" conditions. This is abnormal.

I grew up in Western Colorado. We used a swamp cooler in the summer. After I moved to KS, I became acquainted with air conditioners. A few years after I moved, Western CO had a rather humid summer. My parents had to buy a couple of window a/c units.

You are suggesting that this was the fault of legislators. In reality, weather can and is strange.

Unfortunately in life, shit happens.

Right- that is YOUR global carbon tax-   welcome to rolling black outs!    Alex is right... this is eugenics!

So sorry, but the environmental extremists have been on record for years now, screaming the exact opposite. In reality Bush did his absolute best to put new energy sources online:

I see the scam.  Shut down all the old plants- dont build new ones and let us "compete" for the 3 watts that is left for consumption.

fuck that!   I have to have heat and lights.
