popeye1250 -> Is Egypt's Mubarak a Dictator or not? (1/31/2011 10:58:25 AM)

I got an e-mail from a group wanting me to sign a petition for Egyptian students supporting the ouster of, "The Dictator Mubarak."
Now, it appears that Obama, Biden and Clinton are saying that Mubarak *is not* a dictator?
Which is it?
And Hillary Clinton said yesterday that, "we'd like to see an "orderly transition" in the govt in Egypt."
Ah,.....has anyone told her that this appears to be a ***revolution*** and that unless Mubarak sneaks out of the country he'll probably be hanged or beheaded with one of those big curvy swords!
And, like all "foreign aid" that we give it appears that the people of Egypt haven't seen a dime of the $2 plus billion a year that we've been giving Egypt for the last 30 years or so! Yeah, I'd hang him too after torturing him to get the Swiss bank account numbers first.
How can Obama, Biden and Clinton be so far out of the loop that they don't realize that this guy is a dictator?
Who do you believe, Obama, Biden and Clinton or,....the Egyption People?

Elements of the American government support him, so he can't possibly be a dictator.
You people have a long history of deposing democratically elected leaders of foreign states and putting psychopathic gunbunnies in charge instead, after all. If Batista wasn't a dictator, no way is Mubarak...

Ive yet to see any news iten where Clinton or Obama have said Mubarak isnt a dictator, or that he is. Like the rest of the west, they are staying neutral until they see which way the wind blows.

I know one thing, if the Egyptian people decide on an Islamist State, rather than Mubarak as an ally of the US, many of here will start to piss and moan abour "Muslims"

Moonhead -> RE: Is Egypt's Mubarak a Dictator or not? (1/31/2011 12:34:31 PM)

Oh, no question. The Americans would much rather have a dictator in charge than a theocrat, wouldn't they?

"And, like all "foreign aid" that we give it appears that the people of Egypt haven't seen a dime of the $2 plus billion a year that we've been giving Egypt for the last 30 years or so!"

The US aid goes to two main sources in Egypt, the larger amount is to fund a large&effective police force to keep the Muslim Brotherhood down, the smaller supports the subsidised bread thing Egyptians have going. It's money well spent, Egypt could've been another Iran 20 years ago without it.

Well lets see, Mubarak has been president for what, 30 years? in those 30 years what opposition has he faced?- or has it all been squashed down due to his rule?- Squashed. Ok. Religion- well he is the president who introduced stricter religous laws- ones requiring women to wear face coverings if I remember my facts right. I am sure I could dig up more info. But I am not in the mood to do so at the moment.

They could be another Iran in a matter of months. We threw the Shaw of Iran under the bus. We better not do the same thing to Mubarak.

hlen5 -> RE: Is Egypt's Mubarak a Dictator or not? (1/31/2011 12:51:13 PM)

How could a man not be a dictator to stay in power for 30 years and have 90+ election results every time?

It's embarrassing to see time and time again the shortsightedness of US foriegn policy despite our professed claims of liberty and democracy for all.

Obama, Clinton and Biden (Oh my!) are slowly backing away from the person we helped stay in power. I doubt they're out of the loop when it comes to realizing he's a dictator.

EFTypos.

We threw Shah an Shah under the bus just like any other dictator we helped put into power, and they become inconvienient, we distance ourselves from it.

It is the way we do business, we are Americans.

When did you do that? You deposed Mossadeq and spent twenty odd years propping the Shah's regime up because he didn't plan to nationalise the oil industry.

Ive snipped a bit Hlen..... The UK and the rest of Europe operate the same, as does China and Russia. Politicians care less about the people and more about polical expediency.

Mubarak is indeed a dictator,
Let me tell you why, before I began let me tell you how he was a freaking president,
It was the time for Al Sadat after camp dived. He was president & Mubarak was vise president, in a military show one from the solders in it comes up & shoot Al Sadat in the head.
By low he was now president & there was 2 years for the elections. In these 2 years Mr. Mubarak but more than 30.000 of his so called (against) in the jail & that jail is 16 floors under. They never saw sun light after.
He won the election by fraud or simply that if you don’t elect him some one will come & pick you up to jail,
Let me tell you the awful truth about Middle East:
They are all dictators,(Mubarak , bin ali all of them – there is one who cannot leave his own country for GOD sake- he is wanted by the Interpol he is the ruler of Sudan if you don’t know that)
But USA can but a dictator rule just because he keeps the balance in the (state of Israel) area,
He did kill his own party members that wouldn’t allow him to be re elected…………
You tell me now if he was not a dictator or not?

cuckoldmepls -> RE: Is Egypt's Mubarak a Dictator or not? (1/31/2011 2:03:40 PM)

It doesn't matter if he's a dictator or not. Nothing is going to change with new leadership. You morons, it's the fricken desert. Apparently they don't have much oil, and they sure don't have very many natural resources. They can't even sell sand since every country has their own sand. Their poverty is permanent.

Moonhead -> RE: Is Egypt's Mubarak a Dictator or not? (1/31/2011 2:05:57 PM)

I was taking the piss out of the suggestion that he isn't a dictator, mate.
No argument with anything you've said about that. Sadly, the Americans tend not to give a shit how repulsive the leaders they deal with are.
