Haha! That's awesomeeeeeeee!!!

mefisto69 -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/29/2011 3:15:38 AM)

that's kinda cute. i'm on the waiting list for a Cherry 3000 but - the Japanese are developing a Very advanced young lady. As soon as they can guarantee that i can pull out the voice chip at will, i'll put my order in.

purepleasure -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/29/2011 3:18:04 AM)

The blonde or the brunette?

And yeah, I'd like one of the machines too!

Outlier2 -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/29/2011 7:32:05 AM)

GT,

You did notice that those were 2 slender young women.  So we know
it will work carrying 100 pounds on smooth floors.  How well does or
will it work with the average sized person on it, or should I ask, hanging
over the edges of it?   Just wondering.

I wish it offered more info, OL..

but still. way cool tech!

Sundowner -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/29/2011 9:33:57 AM)

Bugger off young person - this one's for rich oldies.

Unfortunately:-

"Honda developed the U3-X with elderly people in mind. Takanobu Ito, the president of Honda, told the press, “I may want to use it in my home. It’d be easier to get around so I might really use it if my legs grow weaker.” As the average age of Japanese citizens slowly creeps up, Honda’s U3-X could increasingly act as an alternative to canes and walkers. That is, of course, if the device ever makes it to market. Honda doesn’t yet have any plans to commercialize the U3-X."

----------------

It'd be really hard, I know, but imagine if one day they could make one with say 4 wheels and a really comfy seat and armrests and maybe some fingertip controls on the armrest and a fuck-off big battery under the seat! Wow - that'd be hugely cool for tired old people - it'd be a chair with wheels and a motor so they could call it a "motorised wheelchair". I'd certainly go for one of them.

PS Have an old hug you evil young toad.

~FR~

Has anyone seen Wall-E?

Top Gear showed this one, Toyota's version, sort of, but much more bulky.

Hmm, looks to me like something from the Wall-E movie- when humans don't have to move on their own at all.

lol!

Well quite apart from the fact that a lot of people who will want one will need the arse-pads to be about 6 feet wider, I can't help thinking it's going to shit itself over anything but completely smooth terrain.

Could be fun racing them up and down the office though :)

Say goodbye to the Segway, Hello U3!

MaxsGirl -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/29/2011 2:46:35 PM)

I fins it disturbing that people will go to such lengths to avoid exerting themselves in any way.  For someone who truly needs it for medical reasons, ok.  For some who is just too lazy to walk, nein.

While I largely agree with you, I can't help but point out the joy in drunken office racing.

I can't disagree with that.  I have participated in a Segway race (in the ICU, of all places).
