I'm thinking there's a market for one with a built-in, rideable vibrator.

Ho yuss.

You need to have to male sub model also. Inflatable butt plug option LOL. A sub bound to it would make a wonderful serving tray [:D]

I could certainly see this as being fabulous for people with certain medical conditions.  Especially those who are struggling with a cane, but don't want the stigma  or the feeling of 'giving up' that might come with a wheelchair.

Trust me on this; when you're sectioned to a cane, sticks or chair, you really don't give a flying fuck what colour, shape or style it is.

If anything, that thing's worse, coz it's liable to attract more attention.

What is really nice about the thing is that it would be easy for someone who needs a wheelchair to put it in the car.  You wouldn't need a big trunk.  It doesn't appear to be too heavy.  Who cares if it might attract attention.  I'd love to have one.  When my COPD acts up it's often difficult to get around.

Carbon fibre and SS/composite chairs are way light, and v easy to store.

This thing, for at least the first 10 years it gets utilised by chair users, will attract more attention than most of them want.

I'm not saying that makes it a bad thing, but I was answering a "won't that be great for wheelchair users" question.

And it's fuck all use for chair users, since it will shit itself at the first sign of uneven terrain. The average British (and, I should imagine, American) car park would knacker one in seconds. Interesting idea, but they need a ruggedised version.

Also it requires, if I read the blurb right, body mass directional control below the waist, by the operator; that means it's no use to paraplegics.

Lockit -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/29/2011 8:38:56 PM)

If I told my kids I wanted one of those, the first thing they would ask me is if it vibrates... because there is no way in this lifetime I would prop myself on that thing unless it did and even then I would be hugging a wall, tree, anything at all... and they know that! Having back injuries, that would have me in bed for weeks. I don't see that being used for anyone with physical injuries as it would use the muscles in a way that the mind and body are not used to using them and any muscle type injuries could be worse in learning how to ride it. It's like those funny shoes made for a more natural walk. lol Most I know cannot walk in them because walking is by habit and you don't even think about it and those things make you think about how to walk without stumbling. Once learned they might be okay but I think I will stick to my comfy shoes and not take the risk... just like I wouldn't take the risk on this new tech easy way.

Having had one of the first mopeds... I will say that the thing will have people following you, asking you about it and you will not go un-noticed! I had to plan an extra hour everywhere I went, to explain what a moped was, how fast it went and on and on. People would drive around the block repeatedly checking it out. (And it did vibrate. hehe)

Not My experience, actually.  Of course, I've dealt primarily with people where it was a temporary necessity.  That may have something to do with it.

It might attract more attention, but I thought it had two things going for it.

Less bulk.  The thing is certainly less wide than the standard wheelchair or scooter.

Positioning.  From the way it looked to Me in the video, the person was a bit higher than a fully seated position.  That could make it easier to reach cabinets in the home and things like that.  I'm thinking way easier for activities such as shopping at the mall.  (I'll give you the point about the parking lot.)

I suppose I wasn't looking at it from a fun type angle.  More like could this technology be a benefit.

MaxsGirl -> RE: I WANT ONE!!! (1/30/2011 7:33:12 PM)

The problem I see for people with disabilities is that it doesn't have a back, or even a good seat.  The rider needs to balance, leaning just far enough forward or back to achieve the proper speed and direction.  Weakness or lack of control would lead to unwanted movement, which would make it difficult and potentially dangerous for many disabled people to use.
